The Church has pondered the suggestion of Limbo for a few hundred years and has decided that it is not a good idea. Limbo was never official doctrine.
Jesus said, "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation. He who believes and is baptized will be saved." (Mark 16:15-16)
For centuries, people have wondered about children who died before they were baptized. The Bible does not explicitly state that they will go to heaven.
Limbo was suggested as the place where unbaptized babies went when they died. This idea was never official Church doctrine and has been rejected.
The Church now says that it is not sure what happens to unbaptized babies when they die but she entrusts them to the mercy of God.
I do not think it has anything to do with the Pope's hat.

No, I think it was due to the fact that people critical of Catholicism didn't like the idea of unbaptized babies going to limbo. By rescinding the idea, the (scary looking new) Pope is trying to make Catholicism more palatable to non-believers of his faith in hopes of getting some converts. A laughable idea.

Don't be silly. It was due to the fact the catholic church believes that they can pick and choose whatever they want catholics to believe in. Whatever strikes their fancy on a given day--voila, you better believe in it or you're doomed.
What really boggles my mind is not the men who are amusing themselves by deciding what you should believe, but the fact that you actually believe it because they tell you to.
How sad does that make you?

Seriously, I don't believe in Limbo I am a christian and I believe we go to heaven or hell.
