You have to do the ABC's to becoming a Christian. A- admit to God that you are a sinner. B- believe that Jesus is God's son. C- confess you faith in Jesus as your Savior and Lord. God loves all of us no matter what we do! He is very forgiving. Find a local Baptist Church and ask the pastor. He will tell you in full detail what to do. Hope I could help and God bless you! :-)

Everything you need to know about being a Christian is in the Bible. I suggest you start reading in the New Testament (gospel of Matthew) and work your way through Revelation before you start the Old Testament. Faith comes by hearing the Word of God. Well you must first realize that because of Adam and Eve's disobedience in the Garden of Eden the curse of sin was placed upon mankind. Because of this curse God had a plan to redeem mankind of this curse. There are two options. One we all pay the penality of death and eternal damnation for sins. The second option is that God sent His Son Jesus Christ to die on the Cross as the full punishment for all the sins of mankind. Jesus Christ was the acceptable sin substitute sacrifice for all mankind because he was the one and only perfect, sinless man. Because Jesus Christ arose from the grave alive and defeated death we have hope of ressurection if we believe.
The first thing you must do is to believe all this. Next you must admit that you are a sinful person and no religion of any amount of good works can pay for the sins and wrongs you may have done. Next you must believe on Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and trust that the sacrifice he gave when He died on the Cross was sufficient to redeem you of your sins. Finally the most important part of becoming a Christian is this; you must be born again. That involves a life changing turn around event. You have to abandoned all sinful desires and abandon all religious rituals to try to earn your way into heaven and give your life to Jesus Christ. Then you are a Christian but there has to be a change in your life. The word repent means to "Change your mind". Maybe you don't even view yourself as a bad person but you just don't have Jesus Christ in your life. Then you need to continue to be good but be a good person with Jesus Christ in control of your life. Getting baptised is like the first step AFTER becoming a Christian so do not get baptism confused with being a Christian. Baptism is like taking the oath, the pledge, the creed. It is your way of showing the world and the local church you wish to attend that you are a believer in Christ. I hope this helps.

Just the desire to be one, really ! Christ wants you to be one, and he doesn't ask anything in return...his love is unconditional !
On the downside, I guess you kinda need a thick skin too, since as you can see from many of the other answers to your question, Christians are pretty misunderstood and face a good deal of prejudice by closed minded people. But it's worth it ! (Besides...closed minded people are going to find a reason to dislike others anyway. That's pretty much the definition of prejudice.)

Acknowleging you are a sinner(Repent ask God to forgive you) and that Jesus came and laid down his life to bring forgiveness to all mankind he died on the cross and on the third day rose again. Ask Jesus to come into your life and he will. Then you get baptized in water acknowledging the death and resurrection of Christ. Then ask the Holy Spirit to fill you with power to live and walk the Godly life he will then come in and you will speak in tongues like in Acts Chapter II. Then obey God in your daily life. Walk in Love like 1 Corinthians Chapter 13.
John 3 :16, 17. Do not judge others, the Son of man came not to judge but to save lives.

First God must "find" you. Once you have been given light and faith to believe by Grace(or unmerited favor)..you must accept Jesus and the redemption that is available to you by his sacrifice on the cross.(this is how we are cleansed)..you further must repent(change of mind) and turn away from your old life and begin a new life in,through and by Him and his revealed Word.

first of all, familiarize yourself with the teachings of Christ. In order to be a Christian, you have to know what Jesus taught, and do your best to follow those teachings.
read the new testament of the bible- the gospels of Mathew, Mark, Luke, and John.
do your best to live a life of simplicity, humility, generosity, and kindness. practice forgiveness and tolerance.
cling to faith, hope and love.

All I know that it takes to be a Christian is to loudly point out in others what ISN'T "Christian" behaviour, then look smug and disapproving.

firstly, determination to read the bible and learn about god
secondly, love for everyone, your arch enemy, so on and so forth
thirdly, morals for we reflect what we learn and what the lord tells us to do.
fourthly and most importantly, faith in the lord, to trust that no matter what we can rely on him and depend on him to deliver us in times of need.
