If the computer came with recovery software use this to return computer to factory setting. Beware you will in the process lose all data on your disk drive. If your computer did not come with recovery software you will need to purchase a version. then simply insert into cd-rom and boot from cd and follow on screen instructions.
Good luck!!

If you have your operating system installation cd (windows, os x, etc...) then you can put it in and set the computer to boot off the CD. As the computer is starting up you'll have the option to erase everything and then re-install a fresh copy of the operating system itself. If you have a restore cd (some manufacturers send these with the computer) then you can just use those to put the system back to the way it was when it came out of the factory.
If you do decide to wipe everything out with the operating system installation cd then I would get someone to help you out 'cause you'll need to re-install all of the drivers and all of your applications again.

If you have the Operating System CD, put it into the CD drive. During installation, click install and when it comes to choose the partition you want to put it in, delete the current partition that should be C:\ for windows. I have not idea how to wipe a mac or a linux. But just delete the partition and reinstall the OS over it.

Press delete at the black start up screen, change the boot device to CD, put your OS disc into the CD drive, click save to bios, and restart.
Your computer will now boot from the CD.
Don't make a partition or make a new directory.
Windows will format your hard drive and install the OS.
*WARNING*
You will lose ALL the data stored on your computer!
So back up anything you want to save!
Also ALL the drivers will have to be re installed, sound, graphics etc.
so make sure you have the discs!

Put in a Windows disk and boot from it. Chose to install a new copy and format the partition it is on.
Download GParted from:
http://gparted.sourceforge.net/download.php Burn it to disk, boot and reformat.
Or some computers come with partitions that have Windows on them. Look at your documentation. Enter the appropriate command and it will reformat and install itself.
Good luck.

Reinstall the system with a "clean install". This will wipe out all the stuff in memory, so be careful. "Clean install" is what it is called on a Mac, I don't know if its the same term on a PC.
