I have a goup of good friends, who are nice, everyday people. There is a really nice guy who is in this group, and I happen to like him. I have struck up a conversation with him a few times and he seems really nice, easy to talk to, and funny. I was wondering if I should go up and talk to him again?

Absolutely! And if it doesn't go anywhere, the fact of you doing that shows how nice you are. Whether it remains casual, friendship or goes further, doesn't matter in the end, you put yourself forward and I'd do so again and see if it goes anywhere.
Just don't set your sights too high or have too many expectations, just treat him like you would a friend or someone you'd like as a friend and be friendly as you were before.

Why not? If you enjoy your conversations with him, continue having them. Get to know him as friends and see where that road takes you. Take it slow. It is always best to get to know someone as friends before diving into a relationship.
You can ask him out for a cup of cocoa or coffee as friends to get to know him further so you can talk one on one. Have fun getting to know him.

Go for it and be confident. Just be sure not to come on to strong. Develop a friendship then you can casually ask him to "hang out"
