It's not a waste, study of litereature helps us understand the differences between different periods of humanity.

And with new techniques they can help get deeper into the authors of that literature, recent in-depth studies of Agatha Christies work have shown swings in her mental health throughout her life.

It's a waste of time, because nobody wants to take the time to read the books of text pertaining to any one subject anymore; the Internet has made that same information available Online by way of Search Engines, so it's more readily accessible at the touch of a fingertip, rather than having to leaf through a several hundred page book to find what they're looking for. I still like reading books, though... they're not wasted on me at all.

I disagree.

A study of literature would expose you to at least some forms of correct spelling. And since the first line is spelled correctly, but the 2nd line is pidgin teenspeak, I'm guessing you copied this question from your homework assignment. So tell your teacher that studying literature (if you actually study it, that is, instead of trying to get the answers from someone on the internet) will help you improve your spelling skills.

In the age of technology people are reading and writing more than they ever did. The study of literature is more relevant now than ever.
