Stem cell research is okay as long as the stem cells are not taken from aborted human embryos.

A moral good (possible medical advances) cannot come from a moral evil (abortion).

Here is a link to the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops web page on Stem Cell Research: http://www.usccb.org/prolife/issues/bioethic/stemcell/index.shtml

With love in Christ.

That the Catholic Church does NOT oppose stem cell research. What the Church opposes is KILLING people to get their stem cells. The Church doesn't have a problem with adult stem cell research.

The Church condemns stem cell research when human embryos are used, because this type of research requires the destruction of the embryo which destroys a human life.

There are other methods being studied that are more successful than the type that uses embryos, such as harvesting stem cells from baby teeth.
