Were you and most of the answerers to actually read the Eden parable critically you would already know the truth. Adam was warned not to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil before Eve was created. Neither God or Adam warned Eve not to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil and God even sent an aspect of evil in the shape of a serpent to seduce her into eating the fruit. Therefore Eve was a complete innocent with no guidance at all, but evil, and her act was an act of innocence.
This is from a direct Hebrew to English, Old Testament.

The Fruit in the story is the ripening of sexual organs and sexual awareness.
The Tree in the story could be a penis-symbol.
adam and eve (created at the same time) are like little children running around a garden. Naked and unaware. Food is "just there" for them (remember when you were a kid and mommy always had lunch ready?).
their job was to learn the names of everything (like kids do today -- this is an elephant, this is a diplodicus) or "give everything its name." after naming them ,take care of them. don't abuse them or kill them wantonly.
then man and woman discover sexuality. "Where babies come from". How to reproduce -- and they feel shame. they cover themselves. They get what the fruit of the Penis is for: the seed of life. The awakening of sexual knowledge. Not a sin -- just knowledge
And the garden period of life if over. Man must work for and earn his bread. Woman bear children -- and with that comes pain. It is simply a methaphor, a story of how we grow up, mature, become sexual beings, become working people instead of just lollygagging about in the garden.
the Hebrew version of the story has none of the "cause and effect" that so many Christains impute. It is a straight narrative. the snake, btw, is the symbol of knowledge, fertility, of goodness and infinite survival.

Because she never eat apple before and the snake said," I am sure if you eat the apple, you will never die."
Eve believe in snake's word, so, she ate it with her husband Adam.
Afterward, the God was very angry about that.

deceived by the serpent. I also think a lot of it had to do with the fact that Adam had told her of God's rule versus her hearing it from the big man himself. Which makes me wonder why Adam who actually got the law from god, who actually communed with God before Eve came along- why he ate the apple. He should have told her no-way.

In a spirit of independence, Eve chose to decide for herself what was good and what was bad instead of submitting to God’s decision in this. She was completely deceived by the lie spoken to her through the serpent. Thus, when partaking of the forbidden fruit, she did so in anticipation of bettering her condition.
The Bible does not say what fruit it was that Eve ate from.

She was suckered in by the serpent. The serpent told her, in essence, that what God had said wasn't true....that in eating the fruit, she and Adam would become like gods themselves. This appealed to Eve's pride of course....
Satan still uses this trick. Why give up something that works so well? He still questions God's word, and appeals to our pride and vanity.

It was a fruit we have just come to accept apple as the fruit when no one really knows what the fuit was. I think it was a pear, but I wan't there.
She wanted to be more powerful than God, and like Satan was punished for wanting to be God. And although her motives were not of rebellion, she did disobey God and that was it, we had once chance and all was perfect. We failed and now we have what you see. A dump compared to the Garden of Eden...

Well it wasnt an apple it was fruit the Bible does not say the kind. I doubt it exists today. She ate of the fruit because Lucifer deceived her disguised as a serpent. Just as he does to so many today. Peace out......
