I'm not sure that it's as strong as 'hate', but I understand what you mean, here especially some people do seem to get fairly worked up about what others may, or may not, believe.

For the rest, it's a combination of ignorance, and thousands of years of propaganda and conditioning. Even the Osirian religion fell into ignorance and superstition after thousands of years of trying to maintain 'Truth'.

As Atum wrote, the entire block of Judeo-Christian-Islamic belief systems have their origins in ancient Egypt ( with a few nods in the direction of Sumer and the Indus ), whether they care to admit it or not, the failure to do so is also a manifestation of extreme ignorance. But then those committed to totalitarian religion have always specialised in keeping their followers as much in the dark as possible.

Fear is also a major cause.

I didn't know the general public hated ancient religions. If this is so, then why is it such a popular topic on the History Channel?

Because a stupid idol can't do anything. But then again almost all religions are ancient, which would make your question rather untrue. But I assume you don't mean Judaism, Islam or Christianity.

1) the general public in the US is full of intolerant people that hate un-Christian stuff
2) it'd be way too much of a mind blower to think how everything that started in the western world has roots in Africa (like how ancient greek and roman religious thinking has ties to earlier African civilizations)

The #1 issue is pride. They take pride in their lives, pride in technology, pride in science, pride in secular philosophy and what mankind has achieved in the past 200 years and they prize that over anything they could ever get from God.

This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. -John 3:19

Part of it is we think we're better than the ancient people. We are so technically advanced while they weren't. This is silly because the human soul is probably the same now as it was back then.

probably because like most religions there is money to be made... I agree with you though, because if you are a person who practices an ancient tradition that has been passed down by your family ... you are subjected to being wrongfully judged... people fear that they dont know and its sad... i have that issue with most Christians i know.

Do they? I don't know- as a Christian I am very fascinated with other religions. In fact next semester I am taking a world religions class. I can't wait.
to me it is interesting and essential in my faith walk to know about everybody's different religious views. I think we should be open to learn and respect others how else can we expect them to do the same for us?

Depends on the ancient religion you write about. I, myself am of the faith of Amen, "older" than Judaism. The SAME faith as that of "Yezua/(Jesus.)" They hated Jesus for it, just as they hate his Father for neither is of "this" world, though many of the religions that profess the name of Jesus, will say they know him. Read the prophesy of the egyptian priest "Nu," to see truth as to WHO Jesus was, for it was written "4600 years ago," 3800 years before Isaiah of the hebrews was even "born" to prophesize of a "messiah." Jesus said, "if they hated me, they will also hate you........"
