HI,

A good midnight snack for late night people might consist of the following:

1. Whole wheat pretzels with yellow mustard
2. A handful of walnuts and a cup of cut-up fruit.
3. Low -fat yogurt covered with raisins and an apple.
4. Progesso or Campbell's Healthy Choice minestrone soup with scallions and chopped sundried-tomato bits. Seven or nine-grain crusty bread with a half ounce of feta cheese and a glass of red wine.
5. Frozen strawberries and bananas blended to thicken soy chocolate milk sweetened with chocolate syrup and topped with maraschino cherries.
6. Healthy trail mix (low on saturated or trans fats, high on nuts, dried fruit, and fiber)
7. Dried tart cranberries and a ripe pear
8. Small handful of toasted sunflower seeds and sliced jicama sticks
9. A small handful of toatsted cashews and thin slices of candied crystalized ginger
10. A small handful of pecans and a small piece of very good dark chocolate.
11. A handful of toasted almonds
12. Small handful of toasted pumpkin seed and some cheerios
13. A small handful of hazelnuts and a few large spiced Sicilian green olives.

Kindest Personal Regards,

Thin-sliced tart apples, paired with the nutty-caramel flavor of crumbled manchego cheese. Have it on a Ritz ,or just alternate bites with a crispy-crusted French baguette.

(I prefer to alternate, so that the remarkable flavor of this cheese really comes out before it melds with the other tastes and textures. Make sure to let the cheese come to room temperature, it's not as flavorful at fridge-temp.)

For your drink, try a good mid-weight American lager or pilsner. If you are not a beer drinker, try the flip side of the taste spectrum: a sweet & tart peach or raspberry lambic (sold in liquor stores but almost entirely nonalcoholic- I think it may even be ok for kids but check the percentage on the label to be safe).

Not near a liquor store, or underage? Try Malta Goya (Spanish food section, very malty flavor), or Martinelli's sparking apple cider.

And for the true night-owls like myself, you can top it off with a syrupy shot of home-made espresso. Nothing like a good shot of 'spro to keep the night going strong.
(Psst, use beans roasted less than two weeks ago!)

Oh, with that espresso? Try square of dark chocolate. Like Domori Porcelana. Partially melted. On a graham cracker. With a sticky-sweet, melty marshmallow.

Almonds are always a healthy snack. Personally I find a bowl of cereal good. Maybe keep some micro soups on hand? Are you looking for a snack or little more substantial? PB&J is always a good standby.

Well it's not midnight but I'm working on a carton of Breyers Light "Caramel Tracks" ice cream.

I'm going to regret this tomorrow.

I'll pop a small mini ear of corn on the cob in the microwave and believe it or not it curbs my hunger until the morning and it's doesn't carry a lot of fat.
