No way. NASCAR should do away with the top 35 rule.

If they insist on keeping that rule they should only let cars that are out of the top 35 qualify. Then they should invert the field and make the points leader always start in the back. That would really shake things up.

Alas, the game is not about racing anymore. It is all about money. Sponsers are the reason for the top 35 rule and they are the reason things will not change anytime soon.

NASCAR should get rid of the best35 rule. And keep the qualifying as it is. Everyone should have an equal chance to make the race.
It would be nice to see some different drivers every once in a while.
Tighten your belts and good luck racing

It used to be like that, where the top 20 or so would be locked in on day one, and the rest of the positions locked in on day 2. The problem is that if you thought your time wasnt good enough, you tried on day two, and get an even worse time, you screwed over with your day 2 time. Weather was also a factor beyond anybody's imagination on some days.

What I would like to see for some tracks, mainly the big speedways like Pocono, Daytona, Talladega, etc. is that they send 10 or 12 cars out at a time, and let them have the track for 10 or 15 minutes. Would really help cut down on the time it takes to qualify.

No, because it would create an unfair advantage possibly for drivers on one day over the other. First, weather is a huge factor in how the cars handle and you can't guarantee consistent qualifying weather for both days creating an unfair advantage. Second, unless you make all the races impound races then the guys who qualify on the first day will have an unfair advantage in having longer to fix their cars pre-race. Third, even if you do make all the races impound races, the teams qualifying on the second day will have longer to react to feedback from practices in fixing up their cars and making them better for qualifying. Also, if anything comes up from the first day of qualifying (ie.. the tire is too hard), they have longer to fix their cars to compensate for the problem that the guys on the first day of qualifying had.

Overall, bad idea.

nascar used to do the 2 day qualifying thing.

they reason they stopped doing this is for $ reasons.it was simply costing the teams to much money.
they had a qualifying engine and then a race engine.they would practice in qualifying trim to try to qualify well, then have to switch motors after qualifications to a racing engine.

i kinda like the way they qualify now.atleast i dont have to wait 2 days to find out where my drivers will start.

one of ur answers was centered around raining on the second day of qualifications.the way they solved that was the same as it is now, owner points.

I think with so many teams that need qualifying to get into the race they should have a backup day if the first day gets rained out...

If it is nice the first day, everyone qualifies, if not they try on the backup day. If it rains that one out, oh well, but that system would be a bit more fair for the teams needing to get in on time.

No, because what would happen if they got half the qualifyiing in on the first day and it rained the next day? How could you make that fair? I live in Indiana and our motto is "If you don't like the weather, wait a minute and it will change". There are too many chances with weather to be able to do a two day qualifications. Also, the races are so expensive to go to as a family, so we go to the qualifications in Indy every year and we make a whole day of it. That would be a bummer not to be able to see our favorite drivers all in one day.

why not? they used to do it. I just wish they'd make up their mind about qualifying and get rid of the stupid top 35 guaranteed. I know a couple drivers that have made races on speed and been bumped out because of the top 35 rule.

No way, 30 minutes difference in qualifying order can move you up or back 15 positions. That would totally be unfairly exagerated if you split the field on different days.

I think that this whole top35 locked in crap is no good. if a team isn't fast enough to make the race, they shouldn't get special treatment. They say the top35 is so the teams who show up every week get to race every week, but there are some single car teams who show up every week and don't get to race every week just because they aren't in top35. With top35, the big teams will get stronger and single car and part-time teams will be history.
