I'm not sure but I'm guessing the answer is no. The best place to find out what is allowed and what is not is the TSA website or FAA.
You can also try a general search. I got the following
http://www.selfdefenses.com/knifeback/airplane.html
http://www.tsa.gov/travelers/airtravel/prohibited/permitted-prohibited-items.shtm
both of which looked helpful!!!

A lot depends on where you are flying from, and where you are flying to.
TSA officially says it's OK. But if TSA at the airport thinks your needles look dangerous they can confiscate them. Bring some holders in case they don't like your needles or in case the security level suddenly goes up - you don't want to lose all the work you've done!
I've also been told that the rules in Great Britian are different and the answer is NO knitting needles of any kind allowed from the airports there.
It's also recommended that you avoid metal needles - wood/bamboo circular needles are what most knitting groups recommend. You don't have to knit circular on them, just have the circular's long enough and you can go back and forth with them just like regular needles. You won't have to worry about bending down to get a dropped needle this way either.
But yes, I've knitted on a plane since 9/11. I've also needlepointed with no trouble. Stitchers rule!

To check which carry-on items are allowed you can always check the TSA.GOV website....it always depends on the security level whether or not certain items are allowed. At the current level I didnt see knitting needles on the list, but under tools it said you could carry on any type of tool (ex. screwdriver) that was shorter than 7 inches. I know some knitting needles can be a lot longer than that. I dont think you should have an issue bringing them on though...since scissors are allowed...hope that helps (sorry for the long answer)

on the final count extensive type you weren't allowed to take knitting needles onto an plane as hand bags. From the perspective of different passengers, this is probable an incredible element as somebody going clickety-tick-click-clack with knitting needes all for the time of the flight could be fairly annoying in th remarkable.
