Earth tones of blue and brown would go well together, they're both soft and easy on the eyes. If the room is small, or if it seems small after painting, try painting the ceiling an off white. That'll make the ceiling seem higher, thus the room will appear larger.

Assuming you're a guy, I'd say a light brown almost beige (unless your room is large, then you could go with a little darker shade) would work nicely.

you can use different shades of blues to keep it monotoned,
or mix it up using compatible colors...green,yellow,
gray,mauve,or give it a classic look
with eggshell white,gold,or lavender...
accent colors would pull it all together as well..good luck!
