To adopt a religion if nothing else seems to help or go with paths that are already infront of you? I am just wondering because I seem so confused about how to get over some points in the food thing. I am not relgious at all in any one direction, but I need more help being motivated.

I agree with the first answer. I have myself had an eating disorder and am in the process of recovering. I have found my relationship with Jesus to be one of the best parts of recovery. Ya know when the voices get to be just too much? Anyone with an eating disorder knows about the voices...anyways.. thats when I would call out and peace would come over my mind. Anyways...all in all to say the big guy upstairs helped me out. Im sure He can help you too.

Having an eating disorder is not a reason to get involved or adopt a religion, but there's no doubt that spirituality or religion of some kind can help anyone with their "overall life beliefs, thoughts, and actions."

Deciding whether or not you believe in God is a very personal decision. You don't need to become involved in a religion to have a relationship with your "Higher Power," whether it be Christianity, Judaism, Catholicism or any labeled religion.

I believe that faith, convictions & choice of religion comes as a developed choice, involving learning, much reflection or thought, and maybe even prayer. But until you take the time to find your own self, you will not be strong enough to make the decisions you need to make in the long run.

If you're experiencing an eating disorder, you're very vulnerable. There are religions out there in this world that prey on those who are vulnerable like you are right now.

You need to have a good doctor, a good mental health professional who is trained & experienced in eating disorders & a strong support group such as family, friends, a group of those experiencing eating disorders, or even a faith based organization that is understanding & supportive.

You need to talk to your mental health professional about setting goals & for help in making plans to achieve your goals.

Once you are feeling strong enough to love yourself, care for yourself & be "eating disorder free" you'll have all the time in the world to develop a religious or spiritual dimension to your life!

It's certainly not a bad idea at all!

In fact, you may be pleasantly surprised at just how powerful an ally that your faith can become on your path to healing.

I really encourage you to explore Christianity. Not the "fake" Christianity we see far too much of, but genuine Christianity, which is based on RELATIONSHIP (with Jesus, and with others). An excellent book written by a former atheist and Chicago Trib reporter (Lee Strobel) is called "The Case For Christ". It's an excellent read, and will really challenge you to make your own decision based on FACT.

Keep fighting the good fight. Eating disorders are powerful foes, but with proper treatment, you CAN beat them.

I think that if you believe it will help you, then do it. The mind is very powerful. I don't believe in religion, but you need to follow your gut and do what feels best for you.
