You said it, they were next to The Christ, they weren't The Christ, so they can't do anything for your soul, but if you are sorry from the bottom of your heart may be it will happen to you the same thing it happened to one of them, who saw the light in Jesus and that very same day he finished with Jesus in the paradise.

It has to do with what the Bible says about Christ that he gave his soul as a ransom, the price to be paid for what Adam lost. That's why Christ is also called "the second Adam."

The other two put to death with Jesus were not the equivalent to what Adam lost, which was perfect human life with the prospect of living forever.

Only Christ was perfect with the prospect of endless life. It was that perfect life and its prospects that Christ "paid," gave up, for our sins. -- Matthew 20:28; 1 Corinthians 15:22, 45; Philippians 2:6-8.

1. the one man answered it for you he said when the other one mocked Jesus: " we deserve to die we are guilty, but he did nothing to deserve death"
Jesus was the sinless Lamb of God.
2. Christ rose from the dead defeating death and hell they did not.
3. He is and was the Son of God they were not.

hope this helps

Because He was the only one who is God. Because He is the only one who has the power to save. Because He arose from the grave three days after his crucifixion. Because He was sinless, and the other two were not.

One reason is because they are now dead, and although one did go to heaven, he still cannot save your soul. The only way to have your soul saved is to ask God.
