Do you agree with some people who say: as long as a the State of Israel exist, there will not be peace in the Middle East?"

If yes: why?
If no: why not?

Please no religious answers like choosing people etc. This not a religious question,

Well, of course I am talking about the conflicts that Israel has with other countries, especially with Palistina and Lebanon.

I disagree. I do agree however that Israel in it's current form will surely not lead to peace. They need to seriously "clean house" and get their corrupt government out of power and stop torturing the indigenous Palestinian people. Then they need to act like the true democracy that they claim to be and then, and only then, will there be any chance for peace.

Yes : why? Both poor Jews and poor Arabs are serving the old colonial plan to divide the Arab world into many small states. The colonial powers created Israel to serve their policy in the Middle east by making the middle East a war zone forever. Both sides are armed by the west from day one to keep the poor Jews and Arabs killing each other for the last 59 years. When both sides realize that wars are only serving their old enemy then and only then they will have peace.

I suppose it depends on how we define peace, and unfortunately this does venture into the realm of religion. If we define peace as the lack of war - which is how it is used - then I see it as untrue. It is quite possible for the Middle East to exist without war or conflict. It has happened, just briefly. If we define peace on a more individual level, it seems unlikely and here is where religion comes in. Israel has no philosophical hangups with regards the Middle East and peace; Israel believes in the right for each country to exist. In this list is included the right for a Palestine to exist, as the two state solution seems to have been embraced by the Israeli public. The issues are matters of pragmatism and pinpointing the details. While there is a subsection of Israel opposed to such a plan, the vast majority of Israel, as defined by voting records, has supported this idea. All three major parties (Likud, Labor and Kadima - the three parties with enough clout to win the next election) agree on this point. Once again, the issues and hangups are practical not ideological. What holds up peace in the Middle East are not practical issues, but ideological. I point to the election of Hamas to strengthen my point; their victory in the election is the single event that has stalled the peace process. Their platform rejects Israel IDEOLOGICALLY. That is the difference. If it is impossible for a religious or ideological reason for Middle Easterners to accept the existence of Israel then there will never be peace. Recently the former foreign minister for Hamas stated that the acceptance of Israel is against the Koran(Qoran). I know many Muslims will disagree, but as long as this is a popular opinion - as the election of Hamas proves it is - there will not be peace. Israel may be at peace with Egypt, but as long as a strong subsection of Egyptian society rejects Israel's RIGHT to exist, there won't be peace. I believe it is that simple. Issues of practicality eventually get worked out one way or another, but ideological rejection cannot be worked through. I believe that as soon as the rest of the Middle East accepts Israel's right to exist, peace will be at hand.

Yes because the Palestinian are refugees and those Palestinians who live in Israel live under an apartheid system. Black South Africans under apartheid had more freedom.

Israel controls the water and electricity. They live in neighborhoods where each person has a swimming pool.
The Palestinians do not have enough water to drink.

Palestinian houses are bulldozed while people are still inside. Land is taken from the Palestinians and turn into settlement for more Jews.

Jews do not belong there in the first place. Palestinians are the native peoples of the this region. The current residents are illegal aliens.

There was less than 200 Jews in Palestine in 1800.
the Ashkenazic Jews are the caused of all the problems in this region. The Oriental Jews and the Sephardic Jew co-existed peacefully with Arabs for thousands of years. It was when the Ashkenazic Jews started illegally coming into Palestine that problems started occurring. The more Ashkenazic Jews that came the biggger the problem became.

Most American Jews are Ashkenazic which, of course made the problem worse.

American Jews control the American government.

Are they really going to chose the Palestinian Muslim Arabs over their Jewish brothers.

I really really doubt it but theres always a way for everything, the best and only way i could see anything working over there combining Israel & Palestine into one country which i doubt would ever happen. there are places in Palestine and Israel where people of different faiths get along so who knows there could be peace there in the future

No I don't agree.
I think there is a chance for peace with Israel, we all know Israel wont be gone with all the US support. There is peace between Jodan, Egypt and Israel. And there is gonna be peace with Syria when they give us Golan back.
I belive that Israely ppl have the right to live just like us.

Well, unfortunately YES.

....because there will always be people on both sides who are convinced that the other must be demolished.

The very founders of Israel, and their followers, say that the Palestinians have no right to be there, they have convinced most of the Isr. pop. that all Arabs are terrorists, and that Israel therefore must fight them all ..... a self-fulfilling prophecy (if you go over, take their land and then oppress them enough, then Yes, they will fight back).

The Palestinians have experienced immense pain and suffering under this occupation, as have their fathers, grandfathers etc. back as far as the founding of Israel. They have never had the chance to experience "normal" life. Plus, every single "peace talk", and Isr. promise to improve their situation has gone up in smoke. So of course, many of them will think that the only solution is to demolish the state of Israel.
Peace? not for a LONG TIME......

I disagree with those people who say that as long as there is a State of Israel, that there won't be peace. Many of the historical conflicts in the region, such as those between Shia and Sunnis or between Kurds and Arabs or between Palestinians and Bedouins predate modern Israel's existance.

Furthermore, there are many factors in the Middle East that have lead to conflict in which Israel has no part. Israel isn't the reason why most of the Middle East is undemocratic and repressive nor is it the reason for why people chose to resort to extremism.

Israel could, in fact, play a major positive influence in the Middle East if people stopped calling for its destruction and threatening its people. For starters, it would enable it to demilitarize. Second, it has the most well-educated population in the Middle East and is a world-center for high-tech innovation, which could be of great benefit to other Middle Eastern countries. It has some of the best trained disaster response teams in the world, which would be of benefit also in the region.

There won't be peace unless Israel withdraws to the pre-1967 borders, which they will never do voluntarily. If they are forced to withdraw to those borders in a war, peace might be possible.

How about the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait?

Or what about the Iran/Iraq war?

and again the North Yemen Civil War.


All these wars and many more conflicts on top of them were fought in the Middle East since the creation of Israel and did not involve Israel in any way shape or form.


Yet you for some reason think that the removal of Israel will lead to peace.

I think the men and women who died in the above conflicts would disagree with you.
