I have a form of autism, Asperger's. It can be pretty hard when I don't know what something means or social cues mean. It was worse when I was younger, but now I don't think I look all that wierd. It makes me angry that the good parts of autism are not stressed enough and everyone is taught that autism is something a person "suffers" from.

Any body who with a form of autism who CAN answer has relatively high-functioning autism. I'll let them speak for themselves.
I work with my niece who has low-functioning autism. She is almost 11 and can say only a few words. I would say her speech is like that of an 18 month old. Some people with autism can't talk but they can sign or type. Arianna barely knows her ABCs. She knows the letters of her name but needs help getting them in the right order.
This difficulty communicating is the cause of many tantrums. She has gotten better, but it is still a problem.
Arianna is more affectionate than most kids with autism but it is on her own terms. Like a siamese cat.
Email me with other questions. This is my favorite topic!!!

There are various classifications and degrees of autism. Some are unable to talk conversationally, while others have virtually no ability to speak.
Autism varies widely in its severity and symptoms and may go unrecognized, especially in mildly affected children.
Many people with Autim also have unusual ways of learning, paying attention, or reacting to different sensations. The thinking and learning abilities of people with Autim can vary – from gifted to severely challenged.
Autim begins before the age of 3 and lasts throughout a person's life. It occurs in all racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups and is four times more likely to occur in boys than girls.
Scientists aren’t certain what causes autism, but it’s likely that both genetics and environment play a role.

There is an American based program called ABA. It is an intervention program that has shown amazing results with kids who are autistic. Look up ABA in google and it will give you lots of info. I have two autistic nephews, and one of them no longer fits the criteria, thanks to this program. You can do workshops to become a therapist.......you dont need a degree, just a lot of patience and compassion.
