No way. Don't put them in if you don't like them, and add what you do like. You can add green peppers, shredded carrots and shredded zucchini. Cheese, bacon, whatever you like. I have totally customized my meatloaf to what my family and I love. Plus its a good way to sneak in veggies for the kids. If you shred them they almost dissolve and you can't tell they are in there.

It will definitely make a difference in the flavor. Instead of chopping an onion, try Lipton Onion Soup mix. It is easier, there won't be any tears, and there's additional flavors that will spice up the meatloaf. You may just end up being converted after all!

I guess you're in a minority. Most people do like onions. When cooked, onions lend a distinct sweetish flavor, nothing at all like what they taste like when they're raw. If you want to do something else in your meat loaf, experiment with chopped garlic and perhaps some fresh chopped ginger, then add soy sauce. This combination is popular in Chinese food, and might do the trick for you.

I completely agree with you. I think you should still put the onions in because they loose most of their flavor after you cook them...
Also you should cut them up into very small pieces so that you won't be able to taste the texture.

Onions are a vital ingredient, if you don't use them, it won't taste good at all. Or at least it won't have the good flavor of onion, plus the added juice from the onion

Don't use them if you hate them that much, but your meatloaf will taste bland. Try using onion powder or Vidalia onions are in season now. They are super sweet and you can grind them very fine in a food processor.

It will make a difference to the taste, but, hey! you're the cook, do it your way and enjoy. Most people probably wouldn't notice and it is "your recipe", not someone else's.
People adapt recipes all of the time to suit their likes and dislikes.
It is called creativity.

You don't need onions. Just leave them out or put some finely sautéd chopped celery in instead.
No biggy!
