That is true, but it also destroys faith in the system which is the worst crime of all.

Peace officers are given special powers and authority under the law - this is different than any other group in society. As a result, they are held to a higher standard of conduct than any other group and any misconduct is considered a breach of the public trust. Police agencies have, for years, been a group that has been easy for various interest groups to dislike or target.
Having said that, clergy have a special place in society and are looked to as moral/ethical models. So, when allegations are made about them, it damages their image and the public trust in them as well. Reference here to catholic priests and abuse, Fallwell, Swaggart, Jim and Tammy Faye, et al.
Politicians lying to us or misusing public funds or behaving in a corrupt fashion is as offensive a breach of trust, as the government taxes us for the common good of society and we often find misuse of those monies by the people we elected damages the faith we have in the government to do the right thing.
Crimes are crimes and the occasional bad apple within law enforcement has a very negative impact on the overall image of peace officers and of the level of faith people have in that group to uphold and honour the law.
So, I wouldn't say police corruption is the worst crime of all, it's just a very distasteful one and easy to point out.

Nope political corruption is the worst because that is the level of government that sets the tone that the police follow. If the president of the USA is a sleaze bag how do you expect cops or citizens too take the law seriously.

You know what. I hate cops. I was driving behind this "undercover cop" the other day and he was pissin me off. They call em undercover because they don't have sirens or POLICE on the side of the car but for christ sake anybody and their grandmother would know the shape of a police car. Well anyways, this guy was going 25 in a 35 and it was pissin me off. Then all of a sudden he puts on his brakes and pulls over to the right side of the road. WTF. You ever heard of a blinker? What kinda cop is this anyways!?! Aren't they supposed to be setting a good example?

It is more serious when police are corrupt but it doesn't rise to the level of homicide and other violent crimes.

This is one reason why most officers will tell you they will do everything possible to eradicate bad officers who misrepresent the good quickly!
Best wishes!

It is very unfortunate that your statement hits the nail right on the nail, so to speak.
