Being a conservative and an atheist, I certainly take it as a derogatory term.

I don't know about the websters angle but it's true. The fundamentalist christians and the right wing conservatives have been in bed together at least since Reagan. Traditional conservatives, moderate republicans, and libertarians are being forced out.

I never managed to find it, sorry.
However, if they put a christian as a right wing conservative, it is nothing wrong as they tend to be against changes. But not all right wing conservatives are christians.

I find it very sad that a minority denomination has become so vocal that all of Christianity is identified AS them.
Yeah. I'm a very earth conscious person. I am also a conservative Christian. But I get "accused" of being a liberal all the time.
Any time I bring up animal cruelty in factory farms I'm accused of being a liberal lesbian feminist.
Bigotry abounds...

It's also a term used to describe a person who believes that Jesus Christ is their lord and savior, or it's an adjective used by Christians to describe what they find is an ideal condition for a follower of Christ.
Know that I'm an atheist.

I feel really badly about this, but I agree that it's true. If I were a moderate or liberal christian I'd be hacked off and try to get it back.

I believe that the word of God [ the Bible] shows us who were the real christian the ones who believed & followed Christ and not a group of people that were just doing the rigth thing in those days, people who gave there lifes up because of what they believed.

There is nothing derogatory about being Christ-like. In fact, that is the only way to go.
