I dont want to go if the crime is bad.

Especially since I am a foreigner and I know the laws there are ridiculous and I dont want to be framed. I also dont want to get mugged or assaulted or anything like that either.

So I just wanted 2 know how bad it is to go there.

Thanks people, you are a big help.

I'll keep it short, but sweet.
I'm American, but I live here. No problems at all.
I'm a small girl (kinda vulnerable looking) and have taken taxis, walked alone at night, gotten a job, and rented a property all with no hint of any issues.
The people are friendly and helpful and if you use common sense, you'll be fine.
Enjoy our visit!

Don't listen to this Sheba person, it is just not true. Thailand is great place. The Thai government will come down on you like a ton of bricks if you do anything gross with children or have any involvement with drugs. Thailand got a bad reputation when it comes to exploitation of children because of some things that went on a long time ago, but it is not like that now. Their laws are not ridiculous, in many ways Thai society is more open and free than the US, the laws are in place to protect the people from the kind of sick-o's that Sheba is talking about. Here in the US half of the laws are designed to impose Christian morality on the population and have no real foundation in reason. I moved from the US to Bangkok and then from Bangkok to DC. I saw more sicko types in DC than in Bangkok and never felt as safe in DC as I did in Bangkok. Not to say that bad things can't happen in Thailand. If you are stupid you can get in some real trouble, just like at home in the US. Allot of westerners go way overboard in Thailand and act very badly. Use your head, don't get super drunk and the worst thing that will happen to you is paying way to much for some knick knacks! As to Sheba's comments about prostitution don't buy into that, sure there are prostitutes in Thailand, just like there are in every city in the US, Europe, and the rest of the world. Sure there are western men living in Thailand who enjoy the company of prostitutes. If you go you may meet some of these guys - mostly they are sad old men who are alone in the world, not predators or even really perverts.

The crime rate in Phuket is very low and mostly between thai's. Tourists can feel really safe! The only thing I'm a little afraid of is the crazy traffic. I'm a woman, live here since years and have been fine (alone!) even at night time...

Crime is minimal there. If anything, most crimes are caused by foreigners getting stupidly drunk there.

If you are there for a holiday, you will not get into any problem. Visitors are welcomed there much. So you can just relax there.

If your a woman, a child, or a young adult, don't go there, EVER! You will be exploited to the fullest. NEVER go there with your family, EVER!!! Rampant with crime, prostitution and worst of all, all the sick f**ks that can't get away with it in the US, go there to sexually abuse children. Surely there is somewhere else you would like to spend 3 months of your life!!!??? Think that trip over carefully!!
