Shelby had to have 100 cars manufactured by January 1, 1965, to be eligible to race that year. Shelby knew that the race cars didn't have rear seats, so he mounted the spare tire under the large rear window to improve weight distribution. The list price for the 1965 Shelby GT350 was $4,547. It is alot cheaper back then. The 07 Shelby is running about $60,000.

Woodruff's car, one of only 1,175 Shelby GT-350s built in 1967, was sent to Dockery Ford in Morristown, N.J. It was used as a dealer demo car for several months before Woodruff drove into the lot, looking to trade his 1961 Volkswagen Beetle for an American muscle car. Because it was a dealer demo, Woodruff said he was able to purchase the Shelby for $3,760, slightly less than its $4,200 sticker price.
i thought they were around 5000 but apparently they were around 4000.
