Inside cats live longer lives. My Gracie passed away with liver cancer at the age of 16&1/2 but I had a friend who lost her cat Baxster at the ripe old age of 23. Out side cats have shorter lifespans. They get hit by cars, killed by dogs, killed by cat killers.There are people who kill cats for the thrill of it. I lost two cats due to cat killers years apart and different cities later. After the 2ND cat was killed I never let another cat outside again! So keep your cat inside and take your cat to the vet for shots and regular check-ups.

In kittens for dummies, they estimate the life span to be 18 years, longer if they are kept indoors.. there are many things that shorten outdoor cat's life spans.... Cars, dogs, unfriendly neighbors, etc. I was excited to read 18 years, because I don't want to lose my 5 month old kitten EVER - and it's great to know that with proper care she will be around for a VERY long time..

It was once 10 years, then they placed it as much as fifteen,yet now cats get greater suitable vet care and stay some distance longer. The 'record' final I heard grew to become into 35 years, yet incredibly that's barely the right 2%. My vet sees assorted 20, 21 and 23 365 days previous cats at her medical institution. certainly one of mine have been given as much as twenty. top now I incredibly have a 12, a fifteen and a 17 365 days previous cat and that they are all going solid.

My indoor/poutdoor cats have always lived far longer than people here seem to think they do, well over 13 years. I suppose it's down to how well one cares for them.
And by no means is this an exception.
All it takes is for you to teach your cat about the outdoors, then there are no surprises or nasties.

For my cats, 10-20 yrs. But all have been outdoor cats and around farm equipment and coyotes and wild dog packs so some of their lifespans have been shorter due to those things.

Eighteen but they can be older 21 or 22 for indoor cats

the oldest cat that i ever had lived to be 18 years, he always went to the vet and lived a very full life i really miss him now
