The Jews of Jesus' time were Jews in name only.
The Temple priests and pharisees taught the Torah incorrectly.
Jesus did away with incorrect teachings of both the Jews and the heathen.

Worshiping Jesus, we are neither Jew nor heathen, but Christians. Jesus fulfilled all the requirements of the Jews because there was not an earthly sacrifice worthy to pay the penalty of sin.

God has raised up a Spiritual Seed to Abraham. They are Believers in hte Lord Jesus Christ.

A person born into a Jewish family is Jewish. However, they can, if they come to realize that Jesus is their Messiah, be known as a Messianic, or completed, Jew. That a Jewish person would believe in Jesus does not negate their Jewish heritage.

A person not born into a Jewish family is a gentile. No need to become Jewish....we are "grafted into" the vine by our faith in Jesus Christ. A person would only convert to Judaism if they did not believe in Jesus as Messiah. A gentile will never "be" a Jew. It is a heritage that one is born into.

Jesus was born of the Jewish nation. The Jews are God's chosen people precicely because God needed them to be the keepers of His law and to produce the lineage of Jesus. They covenent with God to do this.
Jesus came, however, to be a new covenent - by the sacrifice of himself so that those who are not Jewish could also claim that covenent.

Jesus was a Jew, right. But, he completed the Jewish Law, so we don't have to obey food laws, circumcision, animal sacrifices, etc. because of the Grace Jesus created in the New Covenant He gave to us. Go to church and learn more. lol. Peace.

Jewish is both a cultural and religous categorization. In Biblical scripture Jesus' family members were of a Jewish culture, yet there was no such thing then as Judaism or Christianity; only those who followed God and those who did not. Jews followed God, as did other cultures. It is man who has made further classifications and codified things into what we presently call Christianity, Catholcism, Mormanism, Judaism, et. al.

Christianity began as a 'unique' (in that it stole it's ideas from paganism) sect in the Jewish world in Roman Judea. It was based on the Jewish 'prophecy' of a messiah who would save them from being beat up on by every empire that ruled the world. Christians realized that the best way to get out of being beat up by the dominant empire was to infiltrate their government, which they did. Constantine 'The Great' (Yeah right) adopted christianity and started rubbing out the pagan power base. He only got around to becoming a christian when he was dying. The fact was he liked the idea of one god (the pagan sun god for him) and this christian god matched up close enough to be of value to him.
Because of one boneheaded emperor we are now stuck with christianity.
Thanks Constantine, please drop dead again.
