I am thinking about getting a DivX certified DVD player which should play DivX files. There are two main types out there: DivX and XviD. I was reading some site on the web and it mentioned that XviD can be played in DivX certified players but there may be some problem or something like that... Some players do show both DivX and XviD compatible sign, but there are very few that I've seen states that. So I am thinking, maybe those with just DivX may not play XviD files...

Has anyone played XviD movie files in DivX certified players?
Any problems? Issues? Which DivX player (brand and model number) did you use to play them?

yeah, they should play. But even some divx movies won't play on divx dvd players. It depends on the version of divx used to encode the movie.

Here's a tool that will make sure that your movies will play, by re-encoding them to the proper divx/xvid version: http://alltoavi.sourceforge.net/

I would try to find a DVD player you like at one of the fllowing sites:
http://www.divx.com/products/hw/browse.php?c=1

and

http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers?DVDname=&Search=Search&divx=1&dvdportable=&dvdchanger=&dvdtv=&chipset=&orderby=Name&hits=50&Submit2=Search

They will list if the players are divx, xvid, and what versions of each. At the 2nd site, you can find tune your results like crazy and hopefuly find the perfect DVD player.
