The first step towards change is acceptance. Once you accept yourself, you open the door to change. That's all you have to do. Change is not something you do. It's something you allow.

Personal change is crucial. A lack of change is a symptom of stagnation and death.

The Cycle of Life is all about change. All experience, everything about us is changing all the time. Our appearance changes, our circumstances, our perceptions and our ideas, all in a constant state of flux. All Life experience is thus.

Acceptance of this state of experience our illusions about permanence fall away to reveal....reality, how the world really works. It is at that time that our perceptions widen and we realise that others are still inside the illusion from which we've escaped, it is then that we become aware, our awareness growing with mindfulness and the growth of wisdom, we have become aware of others where before we were ignorant of others through our clouded perceptions. Then it becomes a question of choice, what do we do with our new found awareness, with growing wisdom there is only one choice and that is compassion. For how can we still be selfish when there is so much suffering due to illusion. Our awareness of "self" will not allow it to arise, it is then only proper and mindful that we proceed to be compassionate. It is required.

Yes! I agree it's about acceptance. After all, we aren't even the same one second to the next. Skin sheds (sounds kinda gross now I've written that!), atoms fly off, metabolism continues and our 'perspective' subtly shifts all the time.

Once we realise that, I think it makes it easier to accept the changes in the world around us. And if we can go with the changes, rather like surfing, we can 'use' external change to speed us towards our goals. Well, that's what I find.

Not that we have the choice not to change. All we can do is make it tough or easy on ourselves.

"Change, and change for the better [can be] two different things" - David Baird.

Think it's inevitable, but we must manage it so that understanding & good prevail.

Not easy.

Have tried to 'change quickly' (looking for short cuts), but have crashed & burned in the past.

Have therefore opted for a more gradual route of development.

Call it wariness. Caution. Fear? Concern.

There's probably some middle ground between the hare & the tortoise, but I've not found it... yet.

Considerate question. :-)

That's a nice point you make there. I am always wishing I could change.... maybe I should just accept myself, and let it flow on from there. Thanks for that.

My personal feelings about change: Well, I love change. I thrive on the challenge and the excitement of the new. I get so bored when things just stay the same. However, because of laziness, it often takes an external force to actually get me out of my rut!

Nothing wrong with becoming aware of yourself and who you are. but if you find that the person that you are is not what you want to be, then accepting that fact and be willing to change it for the better is definately a good idea.
and if you crack your own self up. wouldn't it be better to let others in on your personal joke?

Personal change is good. Without personal change one can't grow into a better individual. And yet another good comment.
