My husband has been complaining of extreme pain when talking on the phone only. He describes it as a sharp pain that goes from his ear through his brain. This started with cell phone use and now it is with the use of any phone (cell or land line). Does anyone have any idea what this could be?

According to a four-year research project focused on studying the effect of radiation on human and animal cells, researchers found that the radio waves emitted from a cellular phone may harm body cells and damage DNA in laboratory conditions. Although the study did not prove that mobile phones are a risk to one's health, it did indicate that cells exposed to electromagnetic fields, similar to those of mobile phones, showed a significant increase in single and double-strand DNA breaks.

According to the World Health Organization, some harmful effects EMFs can have on your body include:

Headache
Fatigue
Stress
Sleep disturbances
Skin symptoms like prickling, burning sensations and rashes
Muscle pains and aches

Apparently, digital cell phones are notorious for this high frequency of headaches and earaches. It's advisable to try to hold phone away from your body.

Fortunately, the radiation decreases quite dramatically (exponentially) the further the phone is from your body. When you use a headset, make sure the ENTIRE PHONE is away from your body, as wearing the phone on your belt will cause the radiation to go into your abdomen.

The constant vibration from the telephone receiver on the ear drum is equal to excessive exercise. That's what's producing the pain. Your husband should try using his other ear for a while and see if this helps the pain. If it does he will need to alternate every day using a different ear.

This happens to me too. It even happens when I only use speakerphone. I get an instant ear ache. This never seemed to happen with my Sony phone but I noticed it started when I got my LG phone.

The only times I've experienced pain like this the volume has been too high for too long. I used to get that way back in the day when I worked drive through in a fast food restaurant w/ poor volume control on my headset.

I too have the same problem. This may be due to tooth decay.
