Why do some people find it to be depressing?

The book of Ecclesiastes details the backsliding and disobedience of Solomon. After trying everything he could think of, he concluded it was all meaningless. The end of the book is as follows:
Ecc 12:13 ¶ Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this [is] the whole [duty] of man.
Ecc 12:14 For God shall bring every work into judgment, with every secret thing, whether [it be] good, or whether [it be] evil.

With this in mind, Solomon is hoping that we will learn from him rather than repeat his mistakes. Not seeing the recovery at the end may be why people view it as depressing as he makes it clear that there is nothing but hopelessness and vanity in this life "under the sun."

Hope this helps!
Tom

Ecclesiastes gives a realistic look at this life as man has made it. Without the hope God gives, that can truly be depressing.

But Ecclesiastes reaches beyond what man can do, and reminds us of what God can do.

All the more reason to heed its call to "Remember your Creator." (Ecclesiastes 12:1)

It is a GREAT BOOK!
Shows how nothing in this world compares with that of God!
That everything we have, everything we see, is futile, it does not bring true joy, it brings temporary joy, joy that does not last and is not fufilling.
Ecclesiastes is such a good book to read---and it is so true!
My joy comes from the Lord! And He is ALL that lasts forever!

That's easy, because it starts out with Solomons vast experiences on all he has found to be meaningless.
people want everything to have meaning.

But i still think its a great humbling book that can teach us all some great lessons.

Probably because all the observations are true (at least I've found them to be) and people don't want to face facts sometimes.

Vanity of vanities, says the Preacher, vanity vanity all is vanity.
