If you think that one's good, go find a copy of the OED (that's the big 20 issue Oxford English Dictionary) and look up "set". Now that's a little word with a lot of meaning.

Interestingly (or not), my name - Sally - is a word in itself, with a 4-page entry in the OED. Most people don't even know it's a word.

As I am a geek I looked it up. According to my Collins dictionary there are only five actual meanings of up and therefore all the others must be variations of these (but I get your point). These are:
1. Indicating movement to or position at a higher place
2. Indicating readiness, intensity, or completeness
3. Of a high or higher position
4. Out of bed
5. Increase or raise
How strange, you would expect more.

I'm fed 'up' with people asking 'up'to the minute questions about what's 'up' with little words.'Up'to now the majority of people just put 'up' with things like that, without the fear of being 'up'staged by other people being e'up'horic, in the knowledge they have one 'up' on other people who are not 'up' to the standard that should have been attained by keeping 'up' with school work.
I could go on, but I am 'up' to the gun wails (sp.?) in beer, but not 'up' to the lugs in debt, and I won't end 'up' trying to make 'up' excuses as to why I should give 'up' typing.
That's it, packing 'up' now 'cos wife has just said she is ready to go 'up' to bed, and it's 'up' to her in the end.
That is my contribution for the evening. Like it or lump it , it's 'up' to you.!!!!
