My ex is confusing me (sorry this is long)?

We were long distance - I arrived in Tokyo this Tuesday from New York. We had been emailing each other constantly since we broke up and we met up Wednesday. We met up at 3pm at Yokohama. He emailed me while I was on the plane suggesting that we meet the next day at that time and place. He called me this morning to confirm the time and place and he sounded nice. He was concerned about my condition. When we met up he immediately gave me a bag with a gift inside as a present. Later he told me it was perfume;did I not need it? I just opened it before and it is beautful perfume from Paris! I need to get him a present too, I'm going to shop tomorrow. He suggested we go to the movies, but we decided against it as the movie would end too late. we went to karaoke instead, and he complimented me, and said I am very pretty and my hair color has changed. He asked me where where I am staying and he said since we broke up we should only meet one or two more times this week; he thinks I am here for

only one week, but he suggested that the reason we broke up was so I could be with someone better...We are meeting again this Saturday in Shinjuku, where my hotel is. I am very happy with how things are going, but also sad somehow. I am also just enjoying my time in Tokyo. Let me know what you think! I should add that he and I went to a coffee shop after karaoke and we sat there talking for about two hours. He sent me many messages on his cell phone. He said my hands are still my charm point. My Mum thinks it is simply very japanese - a japanese custom - to give a present. Do you think so or could it be a romantic gesture, given that the present is perfume? What do you think? He emailed me asking to meet a day early so we met up today again. He said let's watch Hannibal next week, and that will be the last time we meet since we broke up. At karaoke, when I sang a sexy song, he seemed to react. He walked me back to my hotel. I asked him to stay for dinner but he said it would get

too late. Then I suggested why doesn't he stay the night, and he said immediately, as if he had been waiting for me to ask him, as if it was a natural issue, he said okay, but in that case tomorrow is the last day we see each other because we should only meet three times in total. he might see me once a year after that. I said let's decide that tomorrow. But I wasn't very enthusiastic about him staying the night, I expected him to say no and was surpised he said yes, and he sensed that. So he changed his mind and said it wasn't a good idea. I walked him back to the station, begging him to stay after all. After we parted he sent me ten emails and called me consecutively ten times asking me how I am, if I'm okay, where I am, and maybe he will come after all to stay with me. but then he decided not to, saying he could not control himself if he stayed with me. He said let's meet next week earlier time, and he emailed me just before about this. I am confused as to what is going on

I forgot to add that he told me he dreamt about me last night; he forgot what we said to each other in the dream.  He also said that he is trying to take a step forward and will let me know if/when things work out this year.

Difficult with the culture clash.

It may be that he is simply being polite.

On the other hand, it may be that he is trying to make use of the confusion to mess with you.

It's quite confronting to simply face him and say "What's your game? What are you playing at?"

You would do better to approach him with:
"I'm very confused with all of this attention you are paying me. I am used to people not interacting whatsoever once they have broken up ... " or something like this. You can ask what's his game indirectly.

He'll probably say oh - nothing, whatever he's doing but observe his behaviour - this will be more important.

If he continues to press you, it'll be time then to request that he leave you alone.

Sounds like he likes you, but he wants to get to know you a little better, and maybe u never know...he could be saving u from his drama by telling you that you should be with someone better.
