I also have a friend that speeks signe but they live 12 hr away. so I do know some signes. ( I think that it also would be cool to be able to talk to them in there second language) I know it must be hard at a loud place when you can only read lips and no one will look right at you. any who signes for a learner in the hearing world. There are several web sites that have free dictionaries. Some even have video so you can see exactly how to make the sign rather than try to figure it out from line drawings.

http://www.mybabycantalk.com

These are both good web sites.

I studied sign language in college and used this site often since it has the longest listing of everyday words. Its a great site, it gives a little video of what it should look like as well as a description on how to sign that word or phrase. Good Luck and I hope it works out for you =)

I borrowed tapes and books at the public Library. My father lost his hearing and I learned sign this way.

I don't know about the website but if he is not speaking, it may be because he has some kind of obstruction inside his ears. I had a niece who seemed to be deaf because she wasn't speaking or she wouldn't react when there'd be loud noises and the doctor said it was because her ears were full of some stuff. I don't know the name.

alspro.com
asl.ms
and the asl browser. (if you type that into yahoo search you'll get the web site almost at the immediate top.)
books aren't really that good, but video's are! I reccomend anything by dawn sign press.

aslpro.com but it's a whole lot easier to learn from a person u know who knows sign language or a deaf person. I learned very fast from my deaf dad, deaf friends, their interpreters, and my mom who used to be an interpreter.
