how do i make a video on my computer?

i want to make a video clip on my computer with different clips in it and music in the background, how do i make a clip like this, do i need some special software to do this or download and can someone give me instructions on how to do this please

Windows movie maker should do the trick...and it should be already on your computer if you have Windows XP.

If you just want to combine multiple video clips into one clip and add music to it, you will need a video editing software. I've used WinDVD Creator and ULead VideoStudio and I personally like ULead videoStudio better. They are really a DVD Authoring software, but you can save your project into a single movie file. There are ton of others out there which may do just what you want to do and some may be freewares. You can go here to download a free trial version of ULead Video Studio. http://www.ulead.com/vs/runme.htm I am not affiliated with them or anything and I am not saying it is a perfect software either. Also.. you may need to download and install the codecs in case you don't have the codecs installed to play some clips. This is where I get my codec: http://www.cole2k.net - Get the Advanced Codec Packs which should give you just about every codec that you may need to play any clips out there.

If you want to create your own clip, one way I know is to get a camcorder with firewire connection, and you will also need a firewire port on your computer (you will need to get a firewire card if you don't already have the port), then you use the software I mentioned above to capture the home video into a video file then do your editing (combine with other clips, add sound, music, voice, etc.) and you can burn to a DVD or save into another movie file.
