Although so much of today's destruction, violence and (massive) death is due to religion, some theists/Christians will still hold on to their faith in three ways:
"It is the Devil at work"
"God works in mysterious ways. He has a good plan for all those people"
"It is God's wrath because of the atheists. We are to blame them"
#3: Ironic isn't it? Atheists are rarely the ones doing all this harm (look at the U.S. prison population), yet when some catastrophe happens we are to blame because God is supposedly angry at us for simply not believing and he decided to take that out on EVERYONE - not just the atheists (if at all).

A Christian claimed #3 last night on this forum, which resulted in me figuring all this out.

"Isn't this just another why of blaming theists/Christians for all the troubles in the world, including your own?"
Oh, certainly not ALL of it - but a large amount, yes. And this isn't a rant - just a thought.

Goodness! You must really hurt your head with all of that negative thinking. It's so much easier to put up your hands and say to Christ 'I surrender'

I have yet to see #3 used as a cause for anyone doing something foolish. I've seen people who do not profess a religion or claim to be athiest do bad things, but how does that reflect them all? Same goes for any person of any other group. There are very few groups that can be put together in this way, and they are few and far between.
My view on the massive violence and such happening is God is preping the world for what the bible says is to come soon. I don't see God killing anyone, I just see Him stepping back and letting man use their free will and destroy each other. He knows what they are going to do and so He lets it happen just the way He told us it would. He is preping everything, holding certain things in check long enough for others to catch up and be made ready, soon the flood gate will open and many things will happen.

I will answer the penultimate and ultimate paragraphs as soon as figures are posted which demonstrate that more people die yearly as a direct result of religious violence than die of violence due to other motives. I have heard so much of this sort of thing argued over and over again by atheists, and inevitably I am given old data (the inquisition, etc.) I am well aware of what the death toll looks like in Iraq, and it is decidedly religious. But let's compare it on a weighted per capita basis to violence committed elsewhere and for different reasons.
If this sounds like I am asking you to do your homework, I am! You have made an assertion, so the burden of proof lies with you. From this point forward, whenever ANYONE tries to use the death tolls of religious crime, I will ALWAYS counter with this until I get an honest answer. Fair enough?

The problem is you're trying to judge the real thing by the counterfeit. Just because some bills are counterfeit, does that mean all of them are? Of course not. Likewise, just because someone claims to do something in God's name doesn't mean they are.
Furthermore, there's a lot of destruction, violence, and (massive) death done in the "name" of atheism too, such as the French Revolution and the former Soviet Union.

I think you have an inflated view of yourself.
Isn't this just another why of blaming theists/Christians for all the troubles in the world, including your own?
I think you will find greed and evil intentions are the bottom line for most of it, as is this rant of yours...
God does not "take it out" on everyone, we do that to ourselves just fine, without His help.
edit:
If this is "just a thought", please examine your intention. It obviously is negatively biased toward God, theists and Christians. Why spread the hate?

Satan is to blame for all of the world's troubles. He knows he will soon be destroyed and he wants to take as many down with him as he can.
Without his influence everyone would serve God.
There will be no other choice soon. You serve God or die....what will you choose?

37When he came near the place where the road goes down the Mount of Olives, the whole crowd of disciples began joyfully to praise God in loud voices for all the miracles they had seen:
38"Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord!"[b]
"Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!"
39Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to Jesus, "Teacher, rebuke your disciples!"
40"I tell you," he replied, "if they keep quiet, the stones will cry out."

well i figured this out a long time ago and using logic you can prove God doesn't exist or is cruel so be prepared for all the "free will" "Satan's doing" and "people are evil" because I've had enough of them
