David usually wholeheartedly sought God's will. He didn't withdraw from the responsibilities of life. The biblical record shows that, the more conditions around David deteriorated, the more he grew in character.

David remained faithful to God throughout his life. His loyalty to His Creator was beyond question. Read about his reliance on God in the psalms of David. He was "the sweet psalmist of Israel" (2 Samuel 23:1).

Luke writes in the book of Acts the assessment of the apostle Paul, that David was a man after God's own heart. God, wrote Paul, "raised up for them David as king, to whom also He gave testimony and said, 'I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after My own heart, who will do all My will'" (Acts 13:22). What a tribute to the former shepherd boy who became king

When Goliath was mocking God's children David Said.....Who is this uncircumcised Philistine that he should defy the armies of the living God.His heart was with the children of God right? He also could have killed Saul when he was running from him but didn't because Saul was an anointed man.The stories go on and on but what it was all about was David's heart was pure, until he had Nathan was it?,sent into battle in the front line to be killed so David could have his wife which of course he was punished by God for his sin.
If people would just understand that God wants us to love our brothers as our self there would be more Davids in this world.
It's a trick from Satan to keep us divided by not agreeing in almost anything.Maybe I gave you a little more than you asked for but that's the way I see it.

David was not an arrogant man. When he sinned, he never blamed God or anyone else for his folly, he took full responsibility and always run to God for forgiveness. Psalms 38 is a vivid example. He had a child-like spirit; thus, a man after God's own heart.

OK, here is my take on this. David was a rock star. He was a musician, among other things (shepard, warrior, king, romeo). He was handsome, charismatic and very passionate. He lived life to the fullest, not whimpering through life or making excuses for being a real man. God doesn't like luke-warm. He likes His people hot.

He loved the Lord, with all his heart soul, mind and strength---He followed God, and trusted in Him with all his heart.
He was always in prayer, and constant "crying out" to the Lord. And he was humble, when convicted, he was pleading with the Lord for forgiveness, and he had a repentent heart. When he did something that was against God ( like the affair he had) It tore him up and he realized how awful that was---begged for God's mercy. This showed how repentent he was, and how much He loved the Lord.

To be like Him. "God is love" David, King David perhaps didn't have the understanding we have today because of the New Testament scriptures "He that is in you is greater than he that is in the world." In essence, King David, David, looked on the outside as to where God's own heart, which was his heart. "There are many mansions in my Father's house. The heart in man is such a mansion.

He was humble, mild, loving and most of all God-fearing. That's why he was chosen above all his older and far more powerful brothers to be the future king of Israel.

God can read hearts, and He liked what He saw in David's.

Even after David sinned with Bathsheeba, God forgave him and extended mercies to him because of his genuine repentance and meekness. So upon his death David was still the same God fearing and humble individual he had been in his youth.

PS: jackie, it was Uriah who was the husband of Bathsheeba. Nathan was the prophet who counseled David after he tried to conceal his sin. Nice try though :)

And lucky fokker: It's too bad your tolerance isn't as big as your ego :0(

David was a murderer and adulterer...but God's man.

I never was able to quite admire David for being a man after God's heart. He came off to me as whiney, self-centered and xenophobic. After a while I realized that was how most of the Old Testament is, and worse. The trouble started when I started looking closely at the New Testament.

One wonders what David would have done had he not been a man after God's own heart!
