Well there was the Civil War and the war with Tripoli. The Revolutionary War was won with the help of the French and I don't think it was exactly a winning war in 1812.Although the U.S of A did most of the important work in the Gulf War.

Have we ever fought a war alone? No. I could argue that the United States fought alone against the Japanese, but the Japanese were fighting the chinese. I could argue the Civil War, but the british were helping the South. The mexican-american war, the spanish-american war, the war of 1812, the war against the Barbary states, and indian wars in the west are probably the wars closest to the US fighting a war "alone". The thing with wars is that they are never fough alone between two people. Either side always has its supporters.
I'm not sure how your description is anything related to your question.

Last one was the civil war. before that the battle for independence. The Us usually gets dragged into wars like WW1 and WW2.Until desert storm. First war we started and we had a lot of allies. Then Bush JR started the whole war on terror thing. Allies are needed to win a war.

Did we? Maybe some ones back as a young country, but certainly none within the last century. And I am not counting those where we declared we won, but in reality we didn't change a thing, or didn't accomplish any goal. As for intelligent soldiers, I think anyone who joins the military without being threatened is not all that intelligent. If they were then their wouldn't be a war to begin with 'cause no one would fight it.

Gen. Andrew Jackson took Florida because the Spanish were harboring terrorists that would attack U.S. That got him elected president. Then the U.S. fought Spain again and got more land. Then the U.S. fought Mexico and got even more land. The U.S. fought the Indian Wars and won (got some land from that).
The U.S. went after Grenada, Panama and Lybia (even when it was called Tripoli) twice too.
