I've been on subscription morphine & vicodin for
about 6 years (30mg morphine & 7.5mg vicodin).
6 morphine & 4 vicodin per day. I had serious pain
after a spinal fusion operation w/bone graft at VA
hospital. During the process, I had a nerve compressed as in a vice between a side plate &
a vertabrea, the pain was horrible & no way could I
go without takeing pain meds. I've tried to stop on
my own, but can't get past the withdrawls to find out
if I still have that much pain going on. The VA in
Reno doesn't have a rehab program & the one in
L.A. isn't set up for my type of problem. VA is all I
have, so I'm kind of hung-up.

well Billie77 has some good ideas but you may want to take Vitamin C about every four hours Also hot Chocolate seems to help a little. There was some new drugs called Buprenex, Subutex, and Suboxone that you may want to check out. They are supposed to allow you to get off without all the withdraw garbage. If nothing else try to get a little ultram/tramadol around in case it gets to bad. Good Luck

This is a VERY dangerous thing to do. I work in EMS (emergency medical services) and we routinely pick up patients that have tried to withdrawal naturally. Narcotic dependency isn't something that you can just do on your own, like curing a common cold. I congratulate you for admitting you have a problem and trying to seek help. Unfortunately, we live in a flawed society. I would take the advice of another poster who mentioned looking up narcotics anonymous (NA). They will help you get into a treatment program. Withdrawaling from narcotics can cause severe nausea and vomitting, electrolyte imbalances, diarrhea, enlarged pupils, tremors and most importantly, cardiac dysrhythmias. When you withdrawal, your body goes into a state of shock. Although you realize you have a problem (psychological addiction) you still have a physiological addiction. When you suddenly stop taking a substance, the body reacts in a violent way. That is why they have treatment programs. A drug called methadone is used. It is a narcotic derivitive but it eases the side effects of withdrawal. This drug is then slowly tapered. I HIGHLY suggest that you try and find a treatment program, but if this is not an option, then I suggest slowly weaning yourself off the drug. For example, if you take 100 mg of a pill once daily, take 85 mg for a couple days, then 75, then 60 mg.... slowly lowering the dose. You are going to feel bad during this time period, but it won't be as devastating as stopping cold turkey. This option won't kill you either. I have been on one too many calls of people withdrawaling. It is devastating to the body. Please seek help. You made the first step and for that, you should be congratulated. Good luck

You are going to have to slowly taper yourself off these meds.start with cutting the morphine to 4 a day and the vicoden to 3 a day and every week reduce it by one. With in a month try to have it to 1 morphine in the morning and 1 vicoden at night. Then reduce to just the vicoden 1 per day.. Then to 1/2 vicoden for a week then everyother day for a week and then stop. you should have no withdraw . Also find a Local AA meeting or NA for additional support and info. Good luck

I totally agree with g i . Slowly get off the meds, reducing them by one pill a week. You won't have any withdrawal but you may find your still in pain, well you'll know that when you start cutting down. Do find an NA meeting in your area after you've stopped, you will need them. Good luck to you.

Okay this is what I would, I'd flush half of the pills down the toilet then cut the dose 1/2 so you can ween yourself off the meds and tell a close friend or family member what you're going through and maybe they can help you.

To help with the withdrawls take hot bathes with 2c. of dissolved Epsom salts and soak for 30 minutes. The skin is the biggest organ of elimination and this will help pull out the drugs.

Drink lots of water and 2c. a day of fresh carrot juice, to flush the medicine out of your liver. You can take 500mg of calcium and magnesium twice a day to help you relax. Drink chamomile tea throughout the day And evening to help you stay relaxed.

use a powdered fiber supplement twice daily to pull the drugs out of your intestines where they can store.

If you have any further questions please let me know,
