i always answer by saying nice picture, but some people really insist in knowing what you really think about them, it's quite embarassing, so i just keep saying that they look nice, and move to another subject.
you can't tell somebody that he's ugly, and people judge beauty differently, for example, somebody can say that i'm beautiful while somebody else won't like me at all. but let's say that you are chatting to somebody ugly, what will happen to this person, if everyone will see his picture and block him, isn't it just immoral?
if the person is nice, dont care about appearance, because in some cases, you wont enjoy a conversation with a handsome person as much as you enjoy it with an "ugly" person!

You send them an 'lol' and say "No, don't send me a joke pic from a website, send me your real photo...I know you can look like that!" That way, you haven't called them ugly, you didn't egg them on and they get the idea you don't particularly care for their true looks, as most people only put their best pics online.(scary!)

are u chatting with them for their looks or their personality? well i personally think that no body is "ugly". everyone has atleast one good feature on their face that makes it a face. Genetics made us. it is not fair to say to someone that they r ugly...it is not their fault....being ugly or attractive is just a made concept because of media. Everyone is beautiful. Everybody has a heart. well to answer your question, chose a feature that you like and then respond on that....

I had that happen, and I was honest. I said I'm sorry but your not my type psychically. I think it's better than lying.

If this is an internet relationship and they know nothing about you, like your phone number or address, just fade away quietly. Don't hurt his feelings.

Hopefully you can be the first to reply and just say "I got your pic. thanks." But if they ask you, then you could just say that you were picturing them looking like something else, like "I thought you'd have longer hair" then leave it at that.

be honest. let them know that they don't appear to be your type but you like chatting so let's leave it at that.
