I haven't been sleeping very good and am considering melatonin. I was wondering if any one had a bad experience with this, like bad dreams. I used Kava Kava a long time ago and had crazy vivid dreams I could not get out of, so would not want to use it if that can happen with melatonin.

I love the stuff. I work a rotating shift, requiring me to sleep days about half the time. Wikipedia.org has a great article, and everything there looks positive, unless you are taking a prescription MAOI. It makes you drowsy, but not like a sleeping pill. If I have to get up a couple of hours into a nap for some reason, I am not dizzy or disoriented. Call me a believer!

Oh, and Vaalea, that is melanin, not melatonin. Melatonin cannot be made by the body when there is a lot of light, melanin is a skin pigmentation that is only made with sunlight. Easy to confuse the two similar sounding words.

Melatonin is a natural substance. You're body actually produces melatonin but if you're having problems sleeping then it's not producing enough. You should not have bad dreams, you'll probably just be able to remember them easier. That's all that happened with me. It didn't work sometimes though. You can't really expect it to work every single night. It's really weird like that.

Melatonin is the hormone that is secreted by the pineal gland which is responsible for sleep it's natural and safe to take as a sleeping supplement. Although there are some possible side effects that are usually minor such as headaches, vivid dreams, and fast heartbeat.

I use melatonin on a pretty regular basis (about 3-4x week). I haven't had any problems and my doctor says it isn't a problem with any of my meds. Although I knew that since I am a nurse. I would check with a pharmacist or MD if you take other meds...but no bad dreams for me. I bought it really reasonable at a warehouse store (Costco, Sams). I sleep really sound with it too...similar to my sleeping pill when I took them. Hope this helps

Low dose melatonin supplements (1 or 2 milligrams) can be an effective sleep aid. Intensified dreams is a common side-effect of melatonin supplementation.

I have unusual sleeping habits and if I force the sleep hours when not tired or awake when I am tired it results in a bad day. I have the ability to have mostly a free day and when it comes time for trips my excitement is always enough to get me going and then I am fine . I just returned from south America and I noticed that my sleep there was good and my metabolic rate was up. I can guess the reasons but that is not for here.

i have been a lifelong insomniac and yes, had some success with melatonin but it wasn't long lasting - like my body grew resistant to it.

recently, i finally go a prescription for restoril and although i only sleep for 4-6 hours on it, it is the deepest quality sleep i've had in years. i really like it. i am a new person and am so thankful for it. but, yea, it would be nice to sleep longer.....

Well. Melatonin is something your skin produces naturally when exposed to sunlight. My advice? Go outside in the sun more often. at least 15 minutes a day.
