Evolution = the process by which species adapt to their environment for continued survival.

Abiogenesis = Where it all came from.

It might not make sense at first glance, but think about it. One has nothing to do with the other.

If we're debating about the nutritional value of a slice of pie on a plate in front of us, you don't win the argument by pointing out that I don't have an answer for 'Who made the pie?'

Not an invalid question by any stretch of the imagination, but certainly irrelevant.

I agree with your argument but not your definitions. Also, you're point is not very clear.

Evolution: Development, where traits that improve on the chances of survival become more probable moving thru successive generations (because they're the ones that live long enough to reproduce), thus altering the species over time. Note: adapting is the effect, NOT the cause; your definition suggests otherwise

Abiogenesis: The creation of life out of non-life.

Point: Knowing how things progress doesn't help explain how they start. This doesn't answer how the first life began.

Similar argument: Knowing how the universe proceeds (by learning the laws of physics, say) doesn't explain how the Big Bang created something out of nothing.

But I don't know if the way to officially "set the record straight" is by posting it as a question on Yahoo Answers. Whatever floats your boat.

But the debate isn't about the nutritional value of the pie, it's about how the pie came to be in the first place. Most Christians don't deny that evolution happens, rather they deny that it can account for origin of all species. As for abiogenesis, it exists in theory only.

It is relevant because evolution is multifaceted. While it is about adaptation to the environment, it's also about the long term effect of these adaptations that can, over time. create a new species. This is the fundamental argument that creations argue when they claim we are god's creation. You have removed the relevance by intentionally limiting the definition.

It is my reasoning that adaptation and evolution are two different things. Evolution requires a change in DNA in which there is a species change, where adaptation is making an adjustment without a change in species. Human are very adaptable, but this is not evidence of their evolution.

There are two types of evolution. The one you mention is micro evolution, how a species adapts to its environment.

Abiogenesis means "life from nonlife". Macro evolution is one specie becoming another

Actually, abiogenesis and evolution aren't that separate. It started with simple molecules that gained the ability to replicate themselves and then grew from there. Your point is a good one though. People just like this "God of the Gaps" idea.

thank you for placing the checklist right this moment. nonetheless i'm no longer Wiccan, i can extremely delight in the frustration of somebody claiming to be a ingredient of a team, and not possibly understanding or perhaps understanding what it incredibly is they declare to be. comprehend nonetheless that it is trouble-free in all religions, in all communities, and in all faiths. you will continuously discover that somebody has twisted the reality, taken it out of context, or merely lied because of the fact it suits them. i think the main extreme factor is to no longer be ignorant or illiberal of different individuals's ideals (Wiccan, Pagan, Christian, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu or in any different case) and study what we are able to from one yet another. you won't think of so, yet there is a lot to be found out from those of a christian faith, merely as there is a lot to be found out from those of a pagan faith. Kudos to you attempting to make us all particularly much less unaware of your ideals. might you be blessed. :o)
