"I apologize for what they went through." - President Bush, after visiting Walter Reed Medical Center one month after reports surfaced of failed leadership and horrific mistreatment of veterans.
Sometimes, Mr. President, apologies just aren't enough.
According to the Independent Review Panel's recently released report on conditions at Walter Reed, soldiers were blatantly being shortchanged and denied the proper treatment they deserved. The report revealed a "virtually incomprehensible" failure of leadership and an "almost palpable disdain" on behalf of the staff to properly treat outpatients.
It was also disclosed that the problems faced by our wounded soldiers extend to veteran's hospitals across the country. This is no way to support our troops.
Since President Bush misled us into the war in Iraq in 2003, the number of veterans coming into the VA heath care system has risen by about 5% a year. Yet in that same time, a Republican-led Congress ignored the growing problems - just like they ignored the deteriorating situation in Iraq.

Yes I REALLY believe that President Bush cares about the troops. He has faced so much during his term and as much as it bothers you he is not resposible for the Walter Reed situation but he is doing everything he can to make it right. It is easy for you to sit at home and pass judgement but you don't have any idea what he must be going through having the lives of the troops in his hands every day and he is doing the right thing to end this war the correct way instead of just pulling out and having to go back in a few years because the United States gets attacked again and the public is outraged and wants war until it becomes to inconvient for them. War is a terrible thing that no one wants but we are not a country that gives up. Give the President a break, you couldn't stand in his shoes for one day.

Anybody who believes that President Bush does not care about the troops needs to lose their blind hatred and look at how he reacts in the presence of wounded troops.

In fact I would say that he cares more than you do.

Look at the difference between how President Bush acts and how Democrats act in the presence of wounded troops. No photographers, no publicity, - just him talking to that troops as a person. The democrats show up only for a carefully scripted photo-op.

Examine the following links and see the difference between President Bus and Senator Clinton:

Really? Because I've heard the VA hospitals here in North Carolina have been completely revamped after Bush came here in 2001, before 9/11. I mean, after eight years of virtual destruction by the Clinton administration, he can only do so much.

And as I've said before, Walter Reed is scheduled to close before the end of the decade, so the reason isn't that no one cares, they just aren't getting the funding like they used to.

The only thing politicians care about, in my opinion, are their own agendas. This is evident in the fact that no politician ever delivers on what they promised during their campaign for office. They always have some lame excuse for not doing what they promised, by shifting blame to other politicians, or something else.

President Bush "cares" and has preserved better living standards for our troops than any democrat will. You wouldn't know about this until you've been in the military so don't even comment on this unless you are or have been.

Of course he cares but we have to stop these terrorists and what else can you say when you know that if you keep troops in Iraq innocent ppl will die and if you take them out everything they died for will be undone and the terrorists will just come over here and kill innocent ppl.

He cares more about them than those trying to cut funding.

The ONLY people cutting funding for the military have been democrats....

Do you really think Bush had ANYTHING to do with the conditions at Walter Reed?

If you do - I have some beachfront property in Iraq since you're buying.

Bush's Iraq WMDs joke backfires
President Bush in Oval Office

At a black-tie dinner for journalists, Mr Bush narrated a slide show poking fun at himself and other members of his administration.

One pictured Mr Bush looking under a piece of furniture in the Oval Office, at which the president remarked: "Those weapons of mass destruction have got to be here somewhere."

After another one, showing him scouring the corner of a room, Mr Bush said: "No, no weapons over there," he said.

And as a third picture, this time showing him leaning over, appeared on the screen the president was heard to say: "Maybe under here?"
