No, in the countries that have banned gun ownership, the bad guys still have guns. Gun control only keeps guns out of the hands of the law abiding citizen.

Of course not. The kid had a mental problem. If he really desired to do what he planned out to do, there are other destructive weapons he would have thought of if guns were not available. I feel sorry for the kid because people with mental problems need help and though I am quite sure there were already warning bells going off within his family, within his school, etc. we as a group of people tend to look the other way around and ignore and hope 'he will get better soon.,' or it will soon pass whatever they are going through. Sad because many innocent people lost their lives. Maybe instead of blaming the right to bear arms, the government should instill in us to be sensitive to family members, friends, we know could be in danger to society. And yet, our right to privacy could be in question when this is infringed in us.

Banning guns from Americans hasn't helped anybody. The bad guys are going to get their hands on guns one way or the other. They don't care about laws. So what kind of situation does that put the law abiding citizens in? They don't have the adequate means of protecting themselves from the guys with guns.
In Texas one guy tried to rob a convenience store with a firearm. Immediately, 4 people pulled their guns on him. How far do you think he got? Without the means of protecting ourselves, the bad guys don't have anything to fear, except for the police, of course, IF they get there in time.

More gun laws would not have prevented what happened at VA Tech. Vigorously enforcing the gun laws currently on the books may have.

Absolutely!!!
The 1st question that comes to my mind is why does a foreign national who is only here on a student visa need a gun????
The federal government needs to be held accountable for this travesty. Yes, the guy had identification and there were "no hits" on him, but again why would he need a gun? I could see if he was a naturalized citizen who was entering a law enforcement academy or becoming a private investigator, but here temporarily on a student visa.......NO WAY!!!!

I'm a European, and I can only shake my head in disbelief at the stupidity and mindlessness with which the arguments of the gun lobby are being repeated here.
Of course the shooting could have been prevented, the guy might have done something with a knife, or a rifle, but would he have been able to kill so many people?

The only thing gun control does is make life easier for the bad guys and harder for good people to defend themselves. Someone as unstable as Cho was going to do what they did no matter what kind of gun laws there are. They don't care about being legal.

Nope. There are plenty of un-enforced gun control laws on the books. There is not one single instance of any gun control law removing the weapon from the hand of people who intend to use a weapon to kill someone. Gun control laws only remove guns from the hands of law-abiding citizens who might need them to protect themselves from the former group.

I won't paste the trail, but i posed a question for debate.

There's loads of debate around the fact that "guns don't kill people, people do." Interesting. But guns make it easier to kill people... that's a good thing?
And the argument that taking guns away from civilians will only leave the criminals with them is utter rubbish and filled with paranoia. You only need to look at the world statistics on countries who do not allow guns to see the proof.
Oh, stop press... gunman seen at NASA Johnson....quick, someone get him... oh hang on, he's got a g....
Sigh.
Utahmike: I believe you have really missed the point. So where does it stop? Perhaps a small personal arsenal of warheads would be permissible in your world...
The gunman at NASA is dead, but took a life on the way. I rest my case. A massive culture shift on guns is required by the US to really make any change in gun related crime.

Have you been reading q/a these past few days? Have you seen the same question asked by hundreds of idiots a hundred different ways? Instead of acting like you are the first one who originated a fascinating idea, (or in this case the same stupid question asked a different stupid way), read those answers. Can you read? (Don't get offended, i don't know you so i have to ask), or did you get someone to write this question for you? If you did have someone write it for you, they couldve told you this question is wasted anyway, nothing is going to change, and no one is stupid enough to go door to door collecting them. Guns are here to stay, and i love it.
