Try a craft store or a pet store that carries aquariums.

This may sound weird, but it worked for me, as I had a very limited budget. Go to a landscaping business or a gravel pit (someplace where landscapers, construction companies, etc. get their sand) and ask for masonary sand (it's really fine with no rocks or dirt in it). When they realize you're only asking for a small pail (maybe a gallon?) they will just give it to you for free. Then let it dry in the sun. Otherwise, try craft stores, but they'll charge you quite a bit.

Go to Lowe's/Home Depot... it's called Play Sand. If you need it soon, go ASAP - they tend to sell out frequently in spring and summer. You'll find it with the masonry products, like concrete & cement mix. I think they come in 20 lb bags, or something like that, just to give you an idea, and it's under $5 for a bag. If you don't need that much try a craft store like Michael's or AC Moore

It depends on what kind of sand you want...

For normal brown sand try a building supply store.. Ask for Play Sand... it's sold by the ton and by the 20 lb bag... If the play sand has too large a grain ask for Sand blaster sand.. it's a very fine grain and sold by the bag 20lb and 50lb.. as well as by the ton..

For colored sands a craft store...
Micaheal's or Ben Franklins will have a variety of colors and grain size...

You can also try landscaping supplier...

Hi there, depending on how much you need, try a home improvement store, such as Home Depot, although the quantity is quite large. You may want to try arts and crafts stores. They sell plain sand, as well as different colored sand. Good Luck!

Do you have a craft store like Hobby Lobby or Michael's? The said will probably be finer and whiter than what you will get at a home improvement store. Also, check on ebay.

Home Depot, Lowes or any other hardware store.

During the spring and summer, the gardening section of Walmart have some too.

Good luck
