I was chosen to give the Invocation for graduation, which is ironic since I'm not religiously affiliated to any denomination (I'm not Atheist by any means, which is beside the point). Regardless, I was wondering if I could get some ideas for writing this speech or maybe a possible template of the structure of an invocation. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you.

1. Be funny
2. be honest
3. Stay away from god and religion
4. be motivational
5. add color and information to the speech. Something from history, some great quotes from famous people in the past,
6. Be funny again
7. Give them a few goals. There are problems in this world that it's their job to fix.
8. do something unexpected. (not lewd) which may then be memorable. Self deprecating is OK.

Maybe an invocation to all the major deities, the self, and then a mention of "any deities I may have missed". I just know that at my HS graduation they did a Christian invocation and MANY students practicing non-Abrahamic religions felt alienated.

Here is an old Irish blessing to say when a friend is leaving:

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind always be at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
and rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the palm of His hand.

With love in Christ.

Try thanking God for giving you enough brains not to become a teacher, and thank Him for making you wealthier than all the "losers" who taught you!

Whatever you do....

Please end it with "In Jesus' name"

No one can squelch your freedom of speech.....not even at a graduation.
