it was june 73, coz I had to wear one when I got my first bike,
that was july 73 ( legally !!! ) good job otherwise I might not have been here now, small price to pay

I don't know exactly, I think it was some time in the 70's as my dad was a biker then (and still is) and the first law passed just stated that a helmet had to be worn. It didn't say where. So my dad and his biker mates used to strap one to their knees!!!

They soon changed the wording of the law to state it had to be worn on the head!

In the U.K., it became compulsory to wear a helmet whilst riding a motorcycle on June 1st, 1973.

You should always wear a helmet when riding a bike, no matter where...

If some idiot falls and breaks their head on something, they'll undoubtedly be able to sue SOMEONE.

1973 ish.. i was miffed as i had to wear one... my mate who were a bit older didnt... then we all had to, and it saved my life...
