Do they employ civilian scientists? I saw the missile that they used in Afghanistan. It penetrates the tunnel of a cave. Then explodes after a while. It would destroy terrorist hideouts like nothing else. That was a cool weapon.

For larmari, I saw a programme on the Discovery channel, talking about this weapon. It was presented by an ex-Navy Seal. Do you know what he said?
'I just love cool weapons like this'

mcg, yes and I believe the one you're referring to on Discovery. They were showing it and how it may be used to target one individual, Leader, mob scene etc. From actions on the gentleman it was targeted at, thing would run you out of your skivvies in a heart beat.

Edit: additional comment on said laser...laser could and is being used with no detrimental harm on victim it's used on...yes, cool but very effective.

Yes, they do have experimental laser weapons systems, and operational laser systems.

The operational systems are all for targetting. It's likely a cave would be targetted by laser.

The missile itself used on a cave probably wasn't a missile, but a guided bomb. Those penetrate caves mostly by being very heavy and streamlined so they fall at high speed and punch through rock before exploding.

The laser makes a poor weapon. Smoke and cloulds can defuse a laser. Also it takes awhile to do damage to a thick structure. Conventional explosives are cheaper and still do the job better than a laser at destroying things.

If it is a thought, then it is likely tests are being conducting to determine its Military possibilities. As for the weapon system you were referring to, let me set you straight, yes, it does detonate on a delayed fuse, meaning that a predetermined time after impact, it will detonate, but it is not a "cool weapon". Weapons in war kill people, its a simple fact, I've been there, I've seen it, you may think its cool, but the people inside that cave or mountain die from it. Nothing about war or killing people is cool. Don't get me wrong, I'm not protesting the war, its necessary sometimes, but there is no excuse for a kid like you to think its cool to find a method of killing people.

To you, who asked this stupid question; I am former Marine Force Recon, you know what I say? "Your a kid who would **** himself if he ever saw combat and have no place saying it is cool to kill people"

They have been using them for decades. Not the kind of weapons you see in movies though, but for range finding, guided munitions, and my own personal favourite, for blinding the pilots of incomming aircraft....

Yes and other countries (Russia) are experimenting with ICBMs that can overcome laser weapon systems.

Who knows, everything the U.S.does is so covert, that the only way the public learns about anything is if there is a leak somewhere.
