I think this is a good question. No, I don't think it is necessary that we be all "serius and stuff" (sic). Afterall the Bible reveals God as having a sense of humor. I believe that is precisely why we have a sense of humor. On the other hand, there are those in this forum who have real needs in their lives and require serious answers to their questions. Think of it this way. There could easily be another Virginia Tech killer in the making who is still trying to get a grip on his or her life and it could be you or me who sees that and offers that person some hope. Amen

There's an old camp song that I think applies in this situation. It goes:
What is the use of being serious?
It's a strain on your brain don't you know.
What is the use of using your intellect
when the wheels inside your head were never meant to go.
What really is the use in being serious?
There's plenty of time for that when you are dead.

It is just supposed to be a person wanting a question answered. People are serious about their religions, and don't like people making fun of religion or God. It's not that Christians are mean or stuck-up. We like to laugh as much as the next person. We just don't laugh at things that are dirty or disrespect God.
