Americans have the right to bear arms, while the reason for this constiutional right was to allow its citizens to protect themselves from others it was also to protect us from the newly established federal government. Unfortunately this right like any right can be abused, anyone who can legally purchase a firearm can and use it for whatever they wish. This of course can lead to tragedy, but it can also save lives. One example of this is at Pearl High School in Miss, the assistant principal retrieved his legally owned .45 Colt from his car and cut short the plans of student to murder more of his fellow classmates after he had already murdered 2 students and wounded more At a dance hall in Penn, a student killed 1 teacher and wounded 2 others before the hall's owner halted the students killing spree with his own legal firearm. So you can see like all rights we have they can be abused. But I don't see calls to brand alcohol illegal, or fast food or even smoking, and they kill more

I am by no means saying the gun laws are perfect. Obviously those who are mentally unstable or obviously criminal should not be allowed to purchase a firearm, but a blanket ban on firearms for all is not the answer. Those who want guns will get them, wether they are illegal or not and will use them against the now unarmed public at large. Instead, the behavior of those individuals who could possibly harm others needs to be identified and steps taken to make sure they do not harm themselves and others.
