Americans have the right to bear arms, while the reason for this constiutional right was to allow its citizens to protect themselves from others it was also to protect us from the newly established federal government. Unfortunately this right like any right can be abused, anyone who can legally purchase a firearm can and use it for whatever they wish. This of course can lead to tragedy, but it can also save lives. One example of this is at Pearl High School in Miss, the assistant principal retrieved his legally owned .45 Colt from his car and cut short the plans of student to murder more of his fellow classmates after he had already murdered 2 students and wounded more At a dance hall in Penn, a student killed 1 teacher and wounded 2 others before the hall's owner halted the students killing spree with his own legal firearm. So you can see like all rights we have they can be abused. But I don't see calls to brand alcohol illegal, or fast food or even smoking, and they kill more

I am by no means saying the gun laws are perfect. Obviously those who are mentally unstable or obviously criminal should not be allowed to purchase a firearm, but a blanket ban on firearms for all is not the answer. Those who want guns will get them, wether they are illegal or not and will use them against the now unarmed public at large. Instead, the behavior of those individuals who could possibly harm others needs to be identified and steps taken to make sure they do not harm themselves and others.

People just don't get it. Law abiding citizens who own guns are not the problem. It was illegal for the student you talk about and the one from VA to have a gun at the school and that didn't stop them. What makes people think the illegality of the gun would make a difference to them?

Most gang members obtain their guns legally. People who think gun control will save lives are ignorant. The only thing it would prevent would be the accidental deaths from people who own them legally and how often do you see that on the news? It's very rare.

I think we all can sit down and work out somthing...don't you? Pro Gun people can't like what happened at Va Tech. So, talk about a plan that can work for everyone. We can preserve the rights of law abiding people and come up with a plan to reduce the number of nutties who get guns to harm the innocent.

When people realize that it is their lack of moral fiber in this country that is the problem, not the gun.

people want to blame anything and everything else for the problem but themselves and look for short term solutions for long term problems that will not work.

I read a Bumper Sticker once that said:

Dear God, why is their so much violence in school?
God replied: " Dear concerned student, because I am not allowed in school".

Every since Madeline Murray O'Hare had prayer taken out of school the violence has risen dramatically, but secular people refuse to accept that reason and fabricate psuedo reasons for themselves in an attempt to justify immorality in every phase of life in this country, justifying all sorts of profanity and immorality all in the name of social tolerance when they themselves are hypocrites for doing so because they preach social tolerance but refuse to accept Christinaity.
If you preach social tolerance than you accept Christinaity, it is all the way or nothing, you don't just pick and choose what is "comfortable" for you.

I would think only our enemies would like to see us unprotected and vulnerable. That was it is easier to manipulate, and terrorize us. People in America seem to be losing their minds, going insane....only another insane person would leave us with no defense...or someone who wanted what we have....
