Is there and specifications that cause an airbag to deploy? I was recently in an accident and neither of our airbags deployed and i do not understand why. I know that because i was hit on the side it should not have deployed, but the car that hit me was hit in the front, why didnt their air bag deploy?

As specifications i mean do you have to be going a certain speed, have your seat belt on, etc.

You have the answer right in your question. Your air bags did not deploy because you were hit from the side. Their air bags did not deploy because they were not wearing seat belts. The air bags are dangerous if deployed without seat belts because the occupant can be in a position to have serious injury during the deployment. The air bag system is designed to work with seat belts to reduce injury. The idiots in the other car should be cited for not wearing their belts, despite who was at fault. When you get a new car, get one with side air bags. They will deploy is a t-bone crash like what you were in.

Here's a site for a company that will help explain airbag failures, accidental airbag deployments and other vehicle related claims. This company works with lawyers and insurance companies to determine the circumstances that led up to these events and helps determine if there is reasonable cause for legal action. In order for an airbag to deploy, certain criteria have to be met and each manufacturer designs their cars differently. The investigations are performed by expert technicians who have been working on airbag systems since they started. My first suggestion is to contact a lawyer and discuss with them the circumstance of your case. Most of them will give you a free consultation. Then, if you are looking for a company that does airbag deployment investigations and can read the airbag module after an accident, try this company. They can help you with your claim if you decide to go forward legally. They work with insurance companies, law firms and individuals regarding all kinds of auto claims and investigations. They are an independent company so the answers they provide after an investigation are impartial and true, regardless of whose case it helps. Sorry about your situation. Good Luck I hope this helps

There are no specifications so manufacture does not get sued. But here is what I know there are crash zone sensors front. Cars with side curtain and seat air bags side sensors too. In order for the air bags to deploy there has to one g deacceleration detected by the main air bag sensor and a switch close from one of the crash sensors. two air bag cars won't deploy when being hit in the side unless the collision is violent.

Usually air bags do not deploy at speeds under 10 mph.

With that said, the other party needs to have their "contacts" checked before driving the vehicle, if speeds exceeded 10 mph upon impact.

There is a chance they may deploy later, during normal driving conditions.

well the crumple zones on a neon are desighned to crumple very eaisly therfore making car useless and totaled sucks. but ur airbags probably didnt go of because sensor are crap and dont think 10 mph is fast enough to deploy

May be it wasn't a big accident. It matters what year your car is in the early 90's they started to put air bags in.
