Because
Republicans have co-opted the term Christian to mean only them that believe as they do.
Republicans=big business
Big Business=who gives a crap about the environment.
So, if you are Republican Christian, you are anti-environment, anti-abortion, anti-gay rights, pro gun-rights....kinda narrow minded and not very much of God is it?

Some interpret Genesis 1:26 and 1:28-31 as a command to take care of God's creation. I am a Christian but not an evangelical, so I can't say for sure what they believe concerning this scripture.

I have a hunch that you would be surprised at how many evangelical Christians are indeed great environmentalists. If you think, however, that Christians should worship the environment or value the environment more than human life itself, you will be disappointed.
The Christian steward of nature first recognizes that nature, like everything else in heaven and earth, was created by God, belongs to God, and is valued by God for itself. The Christian steward helps to utilize nature as God intended in the service of both God and people. When making use of nature, the Christian steward recognizes that he or she has a responsibility to manage or take care of nature in a way that is not wasteful or destructive of the original functions of nature designed by God.
The Christian steward respects plants, animals and other elements of nature in their created order out of respect for the triune God - Father, Son and Holy Spirit who created and continues to sustain the entire earth and universe. The Christian steward also respects and values nature because he or she knows that both people and nature will share in redemption and renewal in the new eternal heaven and earth. Respecting and valuing nature never makes nature the object of a Christian steward’s worship. Rather, credit and honor and worship always goes to the Creator of nature and not nature itself in the same way that credit and honor for a magnificent piece of art work does not go to the art work itself, but to the artist who created it.

We do want to protect the environment. We just don't think that the protection of the mating patterns of a 1/4" species of fish was more important than building retaining walls around New Orleans.
Or did you know that the environmentalists won that battle?

We are called to be good stewards. I am 'pro-environment'.
I ride my bike to the train, we own one vehicle, which we attempt to drive sparingly. I randomly pick-up garbage on the street. My wife takes the kids to the park to pick-up garbage. I don't feed geese bread crumbs, and brake for little wild creatures on the street.
I think we need to do a better job of protecting the un-born.
Why are environmentalists so pro-abortion?

God actually did say something about protecting the earth: He commanded us to be "stewards" of the earth, basically take care of it.
Besides, who said we have anything against protecting the environment anyway?

Because God created the environment so that is why they want to protect it because it's what God created. You can read about all that God created in Genesis in the Bible.

I think christians are as concerned about protecting our environrment as anyone else. Most of us are very concerned about the big paper companies clearcutting the timber in our mountains in east Tennessee and leaving a hugh mess for our generations to come.

God directs His people to be good stewards of His creation... why do you think Christians are not for the environment?
