Was it the way you were brought up? Did you "see the light"?

What was it?

I ask this, because I've ALWAYS been an Atheist, and I probably have to thank my parents for it.....

Truth. (atheist). My parents said: "God is a creation of man."

And everything from logic, reason, the ToE, religion, the Big Bang to the details of evolution has confirmed it.

Also always been an atheist. My folks weren't/aren't especially religious but do believe in God (at least I know my mum does - actually got around to asking her the other day! - but my dad I'm pretty sure.)

My brother and I were both baptised and went to, as he put it, "Wednesday School" for a while but it never took.

It's kinda weird about my dad actually, because other members of his family are very religious, and I'm pretty sure they were brought up quite strictly. Maybe that's why it didn't stick with him...one of my cousins is actually a Lutheran Minister, which is handy for family weddings and funerals I guess...

Yeah, so that's my story!

Time spent in a fundamentalist church. Until that time, I'd never seriously considered the nature of belief and faith. When I really thought seriously about it, I came to the conclusion that accepting something as true, with no evidence was not acceptable for me, so I ceased to believe. I've been an atheist every since.

I was raised up a catholic. I have one aunt and one great aunt that are nuns. I have two great uncles that are priests, but I didn't always believed. Some things came about that I couldn't understand why God would put my family in that position. Then my grandpa died. He was one of the greatest men that ever walked this earth and I felt his loss very deeply. Then I started praying to God and somehow I just new my grandpa was happy. This peaceful feeling came over me and that is when I started to truly believe.

I grew up protestant, but I can't say I ever believed. I did like the company and friends that the church offered. It was then that we had "bible reading marathons" where we would read the bible non-stop. That is where I gained my knowledge of religion. I did not know it then, but I had already become an Atheist. No god can be so perfect yet have to kill!

I was raised Southern Baptist by Christian parents & I had the devil scared out of me @ a fairly young age :], The emphasis was on being good, so that Jesus would love me. As I grew older, I studied other religions, tried on a couple of them & came back to God on my own. I belong to a non-denominational church where the emphasis is on the love & grace of God, not on being good enough to 'earn' His love.

i think i've always questioned my beliefs. at least as long as i can remember. i never remember having friends, who grew up with different religious beliefs, and thinking they're going to hell. i guess i finally started doubting christianity when i started hearing more and more that if i didn't accept christ as my savior i would go to hell. so i started asking questions, and noticed that most of the answers i got was more of the "just believe or burn" rhetoric i was becoming more and more familiar with. these are poor arguments, and so i stopped believing.

I went to Sunday school once. We got to color in Noah's Arc. It was loads of fun particularly when I drew some missiles crashing into Noah's Arc and blowing it up. The teacher told me "God protected the Arc from any harm." To which I responded, "From missiles?!?!" She said, "Yes.", I had a debate with the kid sitting next to me about it which sealed the deal that there was no god protecting Noah's Arc from my crayon missiles.

Exploration - trying to understand my religion, then understanding other religions, then admitting that really, nobody had a clue or a definite answer. That's why I'm an agnostic.
