No, they don't need to shave his leg. Just tell the vet to leave as much of his hair as possible. When my long haired dogs need to have anesthesia, I can never tell where it ( the needle) went..They will shave around his testicles, but it won't show much.
My own vet is experienced and just parts the hair to insert the needle for blood tests or anesthesia..

They will just shave a small area around where the IV will go in. It is necessary adn the hair will grow back very quickly. What is your aversion to shaving the leg? You are obviously not showing the dog in the breed ring or you would not be getting him neutered.
Let him wear the shaved patch proudly and you can tell everyone that you are being a responsible pet owner and helping to control the pet population by having your dog neutered!!

Your vet will shave the area while the dog is under anesthesia. It'll be much easier. You won't need to do a thing except give him lots of love and pat yourself on the back for being such a responsible pet owner.

I'm sure it's the same for cats and dogs, but when I got my cat fixed they shaved the area where they operated. Much like they do for humans as well. It's a sterilization thing, they need to keep the area clean.

I don't see why his leg would even be involved....
No, they don't normally shave the leg when they neuter a dog.

If you request the IV then they will shave a small part of the leg where the IV will be administered.
if you did not request/pay for the additional IV treatment then there should be no leg shaving.

Why would they shave his leg? He might have his front paw shaved so he can be under anesthetics during the surgery. And he would also be shaved around his private parts. I don't think they would shave his leg...

They didn't shave our cats, so I'd guess maybe no.
PS, one of them is a walking cotton-ball, so if they shave anything, they'd shave him. Same general procedure for a dog, I s'pose, as it's still just removing the testicles.
